Tonight: brewing an extract session mild based off of a recipe from HBT.

Tomorrow: Picking up some HT after I ski so I can step up some Conan on my brand new stirplate (thanks Santa).

Oh, and I'm measuring the gravity of my Galaxy DIPA that's been in the fermentor for three+ weeks tonight. And, of course, tasting it (it has been dryhopping for two days, will probably let it go another 5-7). I have a brand new glass baster from Amazon to get the perfect sample.

I think I'm going to do an IPA with the 4 ounces of Mosaics that I have. Shooting for 6-7% ABV and I'm going to throw all the Mosaics in at the KO. Really interested in seeing how these hops taste/smell all by themselves.

Other than dry hopping my Juniper pale ale, I'm currently waiting on freezer space, so no brewing this weekend. I think we're going to start building the brewshed tomorrow though, if it doesn't rain too hard. We've acquired enough wood to start the framing at least. :sunglasses:

let me know how that Juniper ale goes. Any idea how strong the christmas tree taste will come in? I ask because I love Gin so I actually enjoy that forest flavor!

Well there's a thread on it, and I will be updating it as things progress. I have to decide what to dry hop with by tomorrow, and I haven't decided yet.

This time I crushed the juniper berries, something I didn't do last time, so hopefully there will be ample juniper flavor (but we also hope it won't be overpowering!).

I also happen to love gin. Just try to give me a vodka martini. Just try it. Your hand WILL be impaled by a fork! :grimacing:

Also, I like my gin martinis shaken, not stirred. :sunglasses:

crap my bad on not seeing the thread.
well talk about waiting until the 11th hour. good luck with your decision good sir!

what is a Vodka martini? I don't even know what those words mean haha. i get weird looks though, Gin martini, extra olive juice... I avoid calling it extra dirty because I will just sound like a d bag.

I look forward to hearing how it all turns out for you! I think you will be glad you crushed the Juniper berries.

In casinos I sometimes order a martini with extra olives. Sounds classier than "extra dirty"

Brewing a hop-backed West Coast IPA tomorrow and kegging an English Dark Mild. The West Coast will be a 7% abv brew with 5 hops (magnum, chinook, simcoe, amarillo, citra) and an 11 gallon batch takes 24# of grain and 24oz of hops (all of which are added with 25 minutes or less left in the boil and most of which are added during a 2 stage dry hopping)

Posting this to save someone from making the same mistake that I did last night. Temps were below freezing, so I checked my outdoor spigot and hose to make sure I could use my immersion chiller as I normally would. Water flowed perfectly...great...no problems there. Did this before I even doughed in. Almost patted myself on the back for thinking so far ahead...

Then - 90 minute mash, 90 minute boil, go to chill, and...NOTHING. The water that I just ran through my hose had frozen solid. FUUUUCK. I ended up carrying 6.5 gallons of boiling wort through my house and downstairs to the basement just so I could finish the job.

Needless to say, my brew day was A LOT longer than necessary. Today I'm tired, sore and angry all because of it. But I'm a better planner now. Lesson learned. Oh yeah, brewed an RIS.

Transferring my Frenchly Soured Saison to secondary if we're at the right FG.

Then helping out a new home brewer with his first batch! I think its Milk Stout clone! I'm stoked, I love bringing in new people!

Waiting for my RIS Wort to chill to pitching temperature. Very tiny drip on one of my chiller connections and OG a little lower than planned, 1.095 actual vs. 1.100 estimated, but so far not a bad brew day

Just brewed my first batch ever!! Started with the Caribou Slobber kit that came with my homebrewer deluxe kit. Can't wait to start crafting and refining my own recipes in the coming weeks. What an addiction :astonished:

Brewed an extract Scottish Ale this afternoon without a hitch, then a BIAB all-grain almost RIS. I say almost, because I farked up, and didn't rinse the bag. I didn't even notice until cleanup after pitching my yeast. The stinking bag was still sitting the big stainless bowl I had set it in. (At least I had dumped off the runnings from that during the boil; I just never went back to it...)

should still be good, just a little weaker than I was anticipating..
