Super Bock on tap when it's fresh is not too bad. It's much better than Sagres the other Portugal macro which is everywhere too.

Try Quimera brewpub in Lisbon, in the Alacantara neighborhood. It's a cool bar set in an old wine cave and they have great brews on tap and awesome sandwiches. Their homemade reubens are very good and quite large. Highly recommended.

Any beer locales in Portugal that are not in Lisbon or Porto?

I didn’t find much in the Algarve region, but if you make it over to Seville there were great options.

Well, not really. These are what You would call "wine-countries", even more than France or Italy.
I can advice You - if You can still modify Your tour, to visit Portuguese south coast - Lagos, Portimao etc., just for tourism purposes.

As far as beer goes - I am afraid You will not be satisfied. Most of restaurants will have own wine though.

In Coimbra I went to Coral Bar and had Coral Lager which tasted similar to the Helles you get in Franconia. 3€ for a 0.5 liter mug, I was very happy on a hot day.

Drank little beer, but a boat load of Tinto over 3 weeks. The Douro and Dão regions were my favorites. Just returned home 2 days ago.

I was pleasantly surprised that I had a pretty good beer experience in my recent trip to Lisbon and Barcelona.

In Lisbon, I went to Cervaja Canil in Liberdade, which serves their own beer (liked the IPA and belgian dubbel) as well as beer from other breweries, including a self-serve bar

In Barcelona, I was based in the Poblenou neighborhood and went to Garage Beer which had very good IPAs but not as good at other styles, and Hoppiness beer bar which had a good selection of local beers. One note on Garage Beer, they have last call 45 minutes before closing so don't show up near closing time there.

That is positively WRONG. Spain is a high as No. 8 worldwide in consumption of beer per capita, while Portugal is No. 34. France is No. 44, and Italy No. 45.

I recently visited Cerveja Canil and had a good experience. The beers and food were tasty, and there were a few coolers of bottles to go.

Garage ended up being our first stop

I think it was the best brewery of our trip.

Currently drinking a super bock in Porto. It's fine fresh. Stick to the Port.
