I think the issue is more about school violence than trans hatred. There are too many people getting beat up (or shot for that matter) in schools regardless of color, creed, sexual orientation, etc. Bullying knows no bounds.

Interesting conversation. Teachers are in a position to observe, and give feedback about students to school professionals and families . Children can struggle with learning, social interactions due to add, physical limitations, emotional development. Teachers may be the responsible person to identify child abuse. Now, there is a lot of political bs coming thru (lookin at Florida) that sounds like indoctrination, and more guns in schools (Tennessee teachers) doesn’t feel any safer.

do companies want to make money? Yes
Does advertising reflect society as time goes on? Yes
I see a lot of same sex couples, biracial couples normalized in lots of ads.

lol I’m all over the place this am.
If I came across a beer I would normally buy, and it was labeled supportive of LGBQ I would buy it because I like the label and I support people.
I haven’t seen any like that this month.
    Peace and love
    Cheers

If you see a beer company using rainbow flag branding during pride month or sponsoring a queer influencer on social media and it makes you think “grrr, why’s my beer gotta be so darn political nowadays?,” you’re full of shit. There’s nothing inherently political about a company wanting to market its products to a large group of people. What you don’t like is queer people. And the reason the cowards at beer companies are pulling back from marketing directly to queer people as queer people these days is because the companies are afraid of backlash from the homophobe and transphobe markets.

Likewise, if your kid’s teacher knows they’re gay or trans before you as a parent do, there’s something wrong with you. It’s super easy to spot kids’ romantic and gender preferences from a young age. You’re either so immersed in heteronormativity that you’ve blinded yourself to the basic reality of the loved ones around you — or you actually do know your kid is queer and you’re pretending you don’t so you aren’t forced to choose whether you love your bigotry more than you love your child. If your kid is out to other adults and not to you, consider that it probably means your kid is afraid of you.

Hey @Todd, I know you’ve wished Beer Advocates a happy Pride in the past and I recall at least some NextGlass properties engaging in pride-related marketing and festivals in previous years. How have you / BA / NG / etc been engaging with “rainbow capitalism” lately? Any changes since the transphobic backlash against Budweiser and with all the shit you see on the site in threads like this?

I agree, and if teachers see students with clear signs of abuse or neglect (bruises, malnutrition etc.) they should report this—probably to CPS, I don’t know what the protocols are but it seems some kind of policy probably is (or should be) in place. I guess where I get uncomfortable is when we start passing legislation that requires teachers to step in in certain circumstances—that makes teachers responsible and potentially legally liable, and puts more pressure on them to step further outside their lanes as educators, which has to be their primary responsibility. It seems like some parents want to pass the responsibility of parenting off on someone else, or maybe to have someone they can blame if something isn’t going right with their own kids. Ultimately it’s up to parents to be involved enough in their kids’ lives to address these matters if they come up. As the parent of a 17-year-old I’m not saying it’s always easy—but it’s still the parents’ job and no one else’s.

Life is complicated as are social interactions- generally 2 simple rules to remember-
    1) Don’t be a dick
    2) If you see someone struggling help/support them(if they are open to that-otherwise see point 1)

We’re all human and see the world differently, so these discussions can be helpful-

As stated above, corporations only care about profits and return on investments. Anytime one receives large (or ridiculously overblown) feedback on a campaign, most will change their advertising to avoid the same. No surprise in the results.
It’s very easy to react without being informed on every issue these days, but it’ll get better.

im an idiot, so what do I know?

Happy Father’s Day and enjoy some beer!

Sounds like a very privileged take on stuff. As such. You can choose to CONTINUE to not pay attention. Just like you would at any given point at literally EVERY single other possible interaction you have with reality. It's an extremely easy thing to do. Actually.

I think I came off wrong. If you support this it’s great I have no problem with it or any of it. I don’t have a problem with breweries supporting it but what I meant was I’m still going to drink what I like regardless of a breweries stance on things. I try not to get too political because we all have different opinions. Let’s just drink beer and all be happy with how we are.

Omg he is sooo totally privileged . God, I wish I could be so privileged that I could mind my own business instead of having to interject myself into every cause and everyone’s business.

Who injects themselves into everyone’s business?
    • The person who tells other people what pronouns they can/can’t choose for themselves
    • The person who tells other people who they can/can’t love
    • The person who tells other people what they can/can’t do with their own bodies
    • The person who tells other people what clothes they can/can’t wear
    • The person who tells other people how to behave like a “real man” or a “real woman”
It’s painfully obvious who is minding their own business and who is not.

perhaps also the person or persons who expect others to reconstruct their language based upon the personal grievances of a loud special interest group.

I'm putting you under citizens arrest.

Come to a public school in Los Angeles and maybe your mind will change about what the role is that teachers have been FORCED into, but maybe you're familiar . Shits crazy.

    I love these threads.

I really think that LAUSD teachers should stop being forced to perform surgical gender transition surgeries on so many children every week. It really takes away time they need to spend indoctrinating them to be devout communists.

Experience has taught me that this is probably not a good thread to read, lest you stop liking BA folks you previously liked because you're both beer nerds.

It's not even about people agreeing or disagreeing with my own political views; it's that these threads tend to quickly devolve into "yeah, but" nonsense and trying to 'win' the argument, name calling, and general childish behavior.

Maybe I'm wrong and this one is a civil, high-minded debate with respectful responses and general empathy. I'm just going to assume it's like all the rest & skip it.
