Good morning, all! Arrived safely back in the US last evening following several days of spotty (at best) Internet access in Greece and Turkey. From our last day in Izmir, Turkey: a visit to a carpet factory, followed by a light lunch with Efes Pilsen. Şerefe!

Bottom line, this is OK, but similar to many AALs out there. Will pair the remaining three with spicy food.

 

Those are some beautiful carpets, did you end up buying any?

 

The carpets are incredibly beautiful, and my pics don't do them justice. The company works with the country's cultural ministry to preserve the carpetmaking traditions that are being lost. For example, they gave a demonstration on how they remove the silk strands from cocoons and spin them into threads. They do everything by hand, just as it has been done for centuries. Some of the carpets, depending on how intricate the patterns are, may take months to produce. There was a fringed wall hanging of a scene from Ephesus that I really liked, the asking price for which turned out to be $15,000€. Some of the folks in our group bought carpets and had them shipped home. As for me, I decided I'd rather eat and pay rent while admiring the artistry and craftsmanship from afar.

 

Beautiful, but too expensive for my blood - but I understand the artistry that's involved. Sounds like a facinating tour though. Cheers!!

 

Both parents slept past 7am. The weather is looking very suspect for the weekend. Fridge is full and I am ready to sip on some. Cheers all.

Holy Roller American IPA



Hazy light gold color with medium white cap. Aroma of rich resiny hops with a touch of grapefruit.

Taste on entry is solid hop flavors with an underpinning of malt. The malt is not assertive here, or even noticable as a separate flavor, rather a structure on which the hops rest. The hops are sharp without bitterness, clean yet rich and finish with a touch of grapefruit in the aftertaste.

Another hazy, juicy IPA that races around the course without any stumbles.

 

At a Craft beer bar in Bangkok, not too far from the hotel. Jack Pot Hazy IPA, 5.0% ABV

At the same. Second beer is much better. Vacation Volumes Tanlines IPA, 7.% ABV

 

MOSAIC/ NECTARON/ STRATA/ CITRA 8.5% rather tasty.
