And for what it's worth, I'm finding local & regional craft beers in Lager, Pils, Rye, Saison at a price point of btwx $8-12 bucks. Big IPAs & Imp Stouts and the like are usually in the $15-19 range. My wallet thanks me for loving Lagers!

Poured into a 13 oz Snulip glass bottled on 5/30/24 very fresh for a stout of this girth. Pours a very attractive near pitch black, with a finger plus sticky brown head that leaves thin streaks of lace with excellent retention. 4.5

Aroma is chocolate fudge, coffee grounds, macadamias, and roasty bourbon. 4.5

Taste follows fudge, coffee, macadamias, and roasty Bourbon. 4.5

Mouthfeel is above average, soft gentle carbonation, maybe a whisker dry, and at 12% a sipper for sure, but still easy going down. 4.5

Overall this very tasty. I always did the slightly different variants of these. Pair this with triple chocolate cake and boom. 4.5 [IMG]

    Saison de la Meuse
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/59027/484362/

A farmhouse ale brewed... in a farmhouse!

Poured a330ml bottle into a tulip. A big four finger fluffy white head on a hazy dirty lemon. Excellent head retention. Lots of thick lacing. Some yeast at the end of the pour.

Yeast and a slight barnyard funk in the nose.

Fruity, earthy with a dry finish.

Light body and carbonation. Very smooth.

An excellent Saison. True to the style. Well worth a try.

Up in NH for a few days, where today it's cool and rainy, so a perfect day to stay inside, read, play games and enjoy a beer or two. The only new to me beer I have with me is a 2017 bottle of Allagash Confluence....let's give it a go.

    Bottled in 2017.

This beer looks and smells excellent. A translucent, deep yellow / light orange body is capped by an incredibly persistent inch+ of head that's supported by plenty of visibly carbonation flowing upwards. The aroma has plenty of brett to combine with mixed fruit. Overall, before my first sip this is a very enticing beer.

Alas, the taste is not quite on par with the aroma and appearance. Don't get me wrong, it's still tasty, but everything is a little more subdued. I'm enjoying the funk and crackery aftertaste, but it doesn't quite have the depth that the aroma suggested. Everything tastes just a tad watered down.

Overall, maybe consumed fresh the taste would have been as world class as the rest of it, but as it stands this falls in the good to very good, but not great category.

Our son was in Albuquerque earlier this week for a job interview at UNM, and he bought this beer for me. Turbia, NEIPA from La Reforma.
To me, not that attractive. The beer is bilious green color. A small white head with a bit of lace.
Nice aroma. Citrus, tropical fruit, grassy.
    Nice taste. Orange, tangerine, peach.
Light hop bitterness, but mostly a sweet feel.
First beer from this brewery. I'll be back.

Besides bringing me a nice beer, he was offered, and took, the job. This means he will be moving to ABQ, and we'll be empty nesters again.

Poured from 12oz can dated 05/21/24 poured to a Nonic at fridge temp.
It has a hazy gold body. A 50mm white head of tiny bubbles lingers after the pour. That reduces to a 6mm thick foam that stays for most of the session and laces heavily.
Aroma wafts from the pour without having to get close and brings tropical fruit and berries. This changes to a grass prominent fruit smell shortly with a nose in the glass.
This beer really packs in the flavor, citrus, blueberry, pine, grass. They're all there with a sweet front and dry, bitter finish.
Body is medium and the carbonation seems just right.
Excellent beer. Actually wish it came in a 16oz format.

Sheeps Brewing Brewing Deeply Rooted 2023. A barleywine-style ale aged in bourbon barrels. The look is deep brown. Almost black. There is a thick light brown foam atmosphere. The smell starts with bourbon, then travels a path of sourdough, brown sugar, vanilla, molasses, and wood. The taste is almond, caramel, vanilla, brown bread, cinnamon, leather, and bourbon. It has a unique character. The mouthfeel is thick, woody, bready, and crisp, with light-medium carbonation. Overall, this is a pleasure to drink. Please join us at 3 Sheeps Brewing on 7/20/24 for the ultimate BeerAdvocate bottle share, a festival of whales and fellowship, with finest purveyors of our unique hobby. A journey you will never forget, yet may not remember.

Juicy Buddy a hoppy Saison style ale from Twin Elephant Brewing in NJ. This Saison has a ABV of 7%. It pours a cloudy gold color with a thick white head. There is a strong aroma of tropical fruit. The taste is the same tropical fruit. The mouthfeel is just short of full, the finish is off dry. Overall a refreshing and enjoyable brew on a warm summer day. Twin Elephant is a brewery that is putting a lot of effort into not becoming an IPA factory. They brew a number of excellent IPA but always have other styles for sale.

    Appearance: Cloudy yellow, good head.

Smell: Mild fruitiness, some Belgian spiciness.

Taste: A nice mix of flavors! Some light breadiness, then some fruity sweetness. Some Belgian spicy notes too. Very carbonated, fizzy mouthfeel. Fruit and yeast flavors in the finish.

Overall: Another from the mix pack, this is a really nice Belgian blonde! Way more flavorful than a US-style blonde ale. Good fruitiness and the Belgian yeast makes its presence known.

Happy New Beer Weekeend!!! Good to be back to the weekend doing what we do best, thank you for start off last night @Victory_Sabre1973.

Humid summer weather is back after a beautiful Friday yesterday. Hoping the weather holds off tomorrow for our family trip to the Phillies game.

Beer courtesy of brother in laws friend who works for Iron Hill; a brew club exclusive and a first “NZ Pilsner” for me; let’s see what it’s all about.

Iron Hill - Emyn Engrin (NZ Pils 5.2%)

Light straw in color, excellent clarity; bubbly white head, soapy looking, collapses moderately quickly; nice white film persists.

Nose is very hop forward but stops short of being overpowering; quite delightful, a very nice combination of white grape and lemon-lime, sprite like; a light pilsner malt presence.

Tastes is pleasant and very balanced between malt and hops; light bread and cracker combination; hops hit in waves; white grape; unexpected but very welcome grassy character; lime with light dankness on the finish.

Light body leaning towards medium; bright, zippy, bitter, clean and dry finish.

I really enjoyed this beer; the hops were star and unique and never inhibited drinkability. I’d gladly drink this again, and will cause I was gifted 2 cans…also will happily try more pilsner labeled NZ.

Cheers everyone and hope to see you tomorrow.

    ————————

Please go out and search for some AAL so you can join us during the tasting next week; cross post and let’s get both threads going all weekend long.

Rated #6 on BA for the style

Needed a good German pilsener to watch Deutschland und Danmark in the 2024 Euros

Brewers notes: Leans on Hallertau Mittelfruh and Saphir for a quintessential Noble hop character, balanced by a nuanced, cracker-like malt profile. Light bitterness, floral and subtle lemon flavors guide the finish along a crisp, clean mouthfeel. It is fermented with Franconian lager yeast strain, rediscovered in the cellars of Weihenstephan and piloted first in North America. A classic German-style Pilsner is straw to pale in color with a malty sweetness that can be perceived in aroma and flavor. Perception of hop bitterness is medium to high. Noble-type hop aroma and flavor are moderate and quite obvious. Distinctly different from the Bohemian-style pilsner, this style is lighter in color and body and has a lower perceived hop bitterness.

Clear yellow with numerous micro carbonation streams , two finger frothy white foam cap , some lacings

Aroma is crackery malt with a whiff of lemon citrus , soft floral aroma

Taste is cracker malt with a citrusy lemon finish , noble hops

Crisp , slightly tart, refreshing Semi dry finish, hop kiss on the finish

    Good beer

Clear, golden color in the glass; white, dense head, long-lasting; thick rings and sheets of foam mark each sip from the glass. Heady, powerful aroma; light cereal grain and noble hop notes. Clean, delicate flavor; medium hop bitterness presence; herbal tones. Medium body; crisp; excellent balance between sweetness and dryness.

Just an incredible, powerful rendition of a German pilsner. Near perfection!

So one of our dinners that we have in our rotation (rather random, but it makes shopping easier if I understand correctly) is pancakes and bacon with eggs and, of course, maple syrup.
Normally I have a KBS or regular Breakfast Stout from Founder’s but as it’s the weekend and I don’t have the new KBS variant yet, I went with Brunch.
Beer Geek Brunch to be specific.
Poured stout black with a briefly lived light brown head that left no lacing.
The taste was indeed coffee forward, but I keep getting this sweetness, like vanilla and I find no mention of any adjuncts other than coffee. It’s not unpleasant, just unexpected.
The feel is viscous and mouth coating, keeps the flavor from going away.
OA, it’s tasty, and I would never turn it down, but it’s no Breakfast Stout which is plentiful here. And considerably less expensive.
Ah well, back to work. Cheers all!

This is a weekly meal in our house, and almost always Saturday night, I always whip up a big batch of pancakes so we have them for breakfast for the week too. Our weekly breakfast for dinner is the kids and my favorite meal and I also love if for the exact reason you stated above.

    Hey!
Back for the the next few days after being on the wagon for 4 weeks.
Here's a new one from Mt. Holly Lager.

Brewed at von Trapp Brewing, Stowe. VT.
    16 ounce can packaged 06/05/24.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a one inch pure white head over a very bright body with some with lacing.

Nose of citrus and slight mint with herbal notes present.

Taste is a bit sweet at first with slight tropical fruit. Citrus and slight pine notes take over in the middle, finishing with slight citrus pith and pine bitterness.

Mouthfeel is good; slightly creamy, with near medium carbonation.

Overall, a quite tasty and rather unique take on a lager and shouldn't be overlooked.
    Get it!

    Cheers!!
