Stopped in to the Rocklands BBQ in Arlington for lunch yesterday and was shocked by the draft list. Pen Druid, Sacred Profane, Fair Isle (great Seattle saison brewer), Parabola… someone there must be a serious beer geek.

They consistently have good to great beers on tap (same distro as the restaurant group) along with sought after bourbons but their prices are a bit high for those same great beers ~$0.75/oz. The bourbon is astronomical: iirc it was $40/oz for handy. At least on Mondays Tuesdays and Wednesdays you get some free food with a purchase of a beer.

Friendly PSA that Snallygaster tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10AM. If I recall correctly, VIP sold out unusually fast last year, so I plan to snag my tickets shortly after they become available.

rumor going around is that there's going to be a restaurant tax hike in Fairfax County Virginia that will affect breweries at a clip of anywhere between 2 to 6% on top of the current 6% sales tax. This was downstream of a state law from 2020 which permitted counties to raise such taxes without voter approval.

Currently there was such taxes in alrington and alexandria. I know arlington is at 6+4%.

The word going is "there's no point in fighting it" and that it is a done deal.

Nominally arlington has always pitched this as a fee to promote tourism. Unsure that Fairfax's excuse is going to be.

There was an extra 4% tax on our bill at Dominion yesterday.

Beer and Wine? I was told that Falls Church did something already. Yeah, its going around.

I wanted to get the info out there in case there's a chance to fight it. There's about 20 breweries in FFX so its not an insubstantial impact.

I haven’t been in a local beer store for over a month (been only buying direct from breweries on travel), and noticed that Deschutes is now distributing in MD.

If anybody is a fan of pilsners, Dominion has Bierstadt's Slow Pour Pils on tap. When I had this beer at Churchkey a while back, I thought it was one of the best pilsners I'd had. Haven't had it this time, but will try soon.

I just had to look up that Slow Pour Pils, it’s currently the #2 rated German Pilsner here on Beer Advocate (only HF Poetica had it beat). That’s pretty impressive. Bierstadt’s is out of Colorado.

Can confirm. I just had a glass at Dominion and it is the best pilsner I've ever had. I've not had Poetica though, but still...

FWIW Alesmith Speedway Stout Vietnamese Coffee (ranked in the top 250 beers of BA) at Total Wine in Ballston. There were four single cans left, each at $14.99, when I left this morning.

I had to look back thru last few months of postings but noticed that no one has reported that Landmade Farm Brewery in Poolesville, MD has permanently closed. Some internet reading gossip noted that the head brewer left and they struggled to find a replacement. I’m sure there is more to it than that. I find this closure sad, as I found their German and Czech lagers to be solid (IMO were on par with Schilling and quite similar flavor profile). Also I thought their hazy pale ales (Ziggy, Cooper and Molly) in the 5-6% ABV range to be outstanding and some of the best made in MD (in this low ABV range anyway).

Yes @cjgiant posted it yesterday on the WBAYDN thread. It was not posted on their site yesterday (at least when I checked), it is today. Cheers!

Did not expect to see Grimm cans at Safeway (Petworth), but there they were: Wavetable IPA and a hefe. Wavetable is great.

I have no comparison for bottles or drafts but I was a bit underwhelmed by the can. It was good but I would pass on purchasing it again.
