Visited NYC last weekend - just because I had not seen it mentioned - we enjoyed Talea brewing, cool space/vibe.
Did the typical stuff - OH Rockefeller, the taplists at As Is & Haymaker were solid, nothing crazy like HF but still v good.

Talea isn't terrible, but doesn't really move the needle much for the in-the-weeds beer nerd crowd compared to other local breweries. Maybe it's unfairly judgemental but I get kind of a cart-before-the-horse vibe with regards to their marketing, same with Torch & Crown, seems like somebody saw that breweries were popular and got funding to cash in on the trend.

Also Beer Run opened a new location on the UWS, apparently have some Tree House cans in for anybody interested.

Understandable, I feel similarly about some local places I know too much about, so I get that. But as a visitor/dumb tourist, it was a fun stop. Oh and I did find a R&B can at Pier 57 which was a nice treat.
Next trip up I have to get out to Finback, I have always enjoyed their stouts especially, but could not fit it in the itinerary.

Recommendations around/between OH Rockefeller and MSG? The wife and I are coming into town for the day/evening for Pearl Jam, staying out near OH. Would prefer something with decent food - prefer hazy IPAs and pilsner/lagers.

There really will not be much time to venture off of that area unfortunately. We probably won`t be in the city until around 3:00pm. Heading out the next morning towards Philly.

Haymaker is two blocks from MSG with a solid tap list and food.

Agreed. Haymaker is a solid, solid place.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but has anyone gotten cans from Test Brewing? I'm gonna be in the city Thursday afternoon and thinking of going to their beer garden in Williamsburg. They're releasing an IPA tomorrow - any guesses on whether or not cans will stick around through Thursday?

I picked up cans from the second release on the release day. On IG they said the first batch had some left when they opened for the week on the following Wednesday, so based on that Thursday may just be a day late. Not sure how long the next release made it.

I really enjoyed everything I had from them too.

Thanks for the reply! At the very least, I'm excited to try some of their stuff on draft.

Was able to swing by this afternoon. Really impressed with their stuff and they still had some cans to go! Since I had the benefit of a train commute, I imbibed a bit more than I normally do and tried everything.

The beertender recommended Ace's Pizza for lunch, so I stopped by there on the way back and had a pepperoni Detroit slice with six wings. Awesome. The Test + Aces combo is gonna be on my list for late week work days where I have an afternoon open!

NYC residents, hoping someone can help out with this one. I have family going to Manhattan in late August. Hoping they can bring back some Newburgh Brewing, I did google search and found some places that I may call.

Can anyone recommend a store that has a good selection of local NY beer on the upper east side? They're staying in a rental right around 76th and 3rd Avenue. Thanks in advance for any help.

City Swiggers might be the shop that would come to peoples' minds first. I haven't been in ages. Craft + Carry is a block away from them and can act as a backup. City Hops is a shop closer to the south side of the park. I can't say which of those are better for local (or just out of NYC) beers. These aren't places I'm really familiar with and recommending, but it's at least a starting point for you. You can call them and ask if they have any Newburgh beers.

I have no idea how easy (or hard) it is to find Newburgh in NYC right now. Their various "Boss" IPAs are the easiest to find. Sometimes you run into their brown ale or cream ale. I can't remember the last time I saw any other packaged beers in stores from them. You can try emailing the brewery. I can't imagine that Newburgh beers move quickly in NYC specialty shops.

I would have suggested a Whole Foods back when I commuted to Manhattan but that was more than 6 years ago. They used to have Newburgh frequently iirc.

Thank you both, @zid Brown is really the only one I'm hoping they have. I will give them a call and hope they have it, if not, it wasn't meant to be :beers:

Newburgh is not currently distributed in NYC.
We always shelved the Brown and Cream ales. They're great local versions of the styles.

I just noticed this, Jon. I've gotten the Brown at a Shop Rite Liquors in North NJ within the last 6 months. I'd have no problem getting some to you if I do come across it again, if you like.

An unlikely stop ended my years long search for Newburgh Brown.

Driving home from our vacation we needed a bathroom break and I notice a Deciccos sign close to exit.

Thanks to all you NY BAs I know they have a lot of beer. They had so many in fact, I couldn’t find it, looked 4-5 time at fridges then finally, I saw it on my last scan of the aisle!!!
