Will have to try it. Some years it's been great, but last year it really sucked. Am hoping for a great version this year!

Perhaps they're experimenting with "hot-side" fresh hop beers this year?

LOL! I've heard it's a virtue, but I've yet to master it.

I had one last night. It was tasty but not a lot fresh hop kick. I would not be able to differentiate with the regular version to be honest.

That was my impression last year as well. It was a disappointment, as Occidental made versions in previous years that had considerable fh character.

One thing I've noticed about fh pils, is that they tend to lose their fh character pretty quickly. Even more so then IPAs and APAs. After a week or so, it really starts to drop off.

Looks like it's currently on tap over at Beermongers. May need to stop by today.

Stormbreaker indicated they plan to release another 3 fh beers by Tuesday. Could be as early as Monday, but Tuesday for sure I was told.

So, just had my first two fh beers of the season (both on draft). The Kolsch from Stormbreaker actually had more fh character than I was expecting. I'm not sure how well it goes with this particular style, but it's definitely noticeable. The fh character in the Occidental pils is far more subtle, but is still noticable I thought. I prefer it to last years version, though it's still not what I would call a top tier fh pils (like some of the fh versions Occidental has put out in the past).

This is actually a better start to the season than I was expecting.

Now, head on to ForeLand for the FH Landform Pils. Flash frozen fresh Tettnangs! This was exceptional last year.

Struck out on FH Pilsner at Breakside Beaverton. It should've been on yesterday, but according to the bartenders they ran into problems racking it into kegs*.

They're expecting it will be on tap tomorrow.

    * I had a vision of an inch of hop debris in the kegs, and hop flecks in the foam. Like Breakside's FH Sterling Pilsner from a few years ago. It was a lovely vision.

FH Pils will be on tap at all locations this week, but hopefully tomorrow! And there's another new thing we're gonna try for this year's FH season that I can't reveal yet...

The bartenders at Breakside Beaverton have been expecting FH Pils since it was announced last Friday, but had no info to share today. Did social media jump the gun last week? Were there issues getting FH Pils into kegs?

No issues, I think maybe they just had old info. Things are prone to change at any time during FH season.

Went to Sunday School at Great Northern yesterday ( the featured brewery was Atwood Ales. They're done brewing, but Josh had some beer in barrels he didn't want to dump, so he bottled 'em up), and I half-jokingly asked Ron if he was gonna have any FH beers. He said that he was just about ready to release his 2023 FH, so we've got that going for us. Which is nice.

Not sure what to make of this, but Imperial is advertising a fh festival event over Labor Day. Ex Novo is one of the listed participants.

Posted on the Ex Novo Instagram account about an hour ago:

Hopped with 200 lbs of fresh Centennial hops from @goschiefarms in Oregon, our flagship IPA is now bursting with flavors of pink grapefruit and juicy melon. R&D brewer Hudson flew back from the PNW this past Friday, and we dropped these fresh hops straight into a batch of Mass Ascension IPA. These whole cone, fresh from the bine hops are only available once a year, during hop harvest, so this brew is super limited.

Fresh Hop Mass Ascension? YES PLEASE.

The post also includes a couple terrific photos of an Ex Novo dude pushing giant bags labeled "Goschie Farms" through PDX and the Albuquerque airport.
