Top 10 on the worst list. Bud select 55 has a score of 45, so Meister Brau is in some pretty select company (no pun intended).

I’d still call the top 10 of the worst beers list the bottom 10. Otherwise worlds collide, up is down, black is white, cats and dogs etc.

So the worst beer I ever rated was Nigeria Pal, which I got at a bottle shop in Germany. Brewed for Nigeria in Germany, it was a pale lager with a sour smell, tasted like wallpaper paste and had a large number of nondescript floaties. Tasted, then down the drain.

Huh, I have had none of those and as I move into my middle 50’s and concentrate on drinking only what I will truly enjoy, it is unlikely I will ever have any of those unless I am absolutely parched at some driveway graduation. And even then…..doubtful

I actually kind of liked it back in the mid to late 80's for a cheaper beer..better than Red, White and Blue and some of the others in that area...

I've had 47 of the 250 worst rated and 9 of the 250 top rated beers on BA. That's not a stat I'm proud of. But in my defense, the worst beers are way easier to find than best ones. :smirk:

That's because we know beers being rarer makes them taste better. Nothing makes a beer taste lesser to me quite like knowing other people will get to try it.

Thanks - I'd never noticed that list! Now I have a new life goal! 10 down and how many to go!

"Chasing" them? :grimacing: Seems I've been running away from them for the past 50 years or so.

Just have a Sam Adams Jack-O and let that stand for all the rest of them. You've done your duty.

I'm not chasing it, but I have reviewed 157 beers from this list.

Not exactly "chasing" the worst beers, but as a long-time ticker, I've managed to hit 24 on the list.

I haven't rated them since mist are from my pre-BA enlightenment, but I am shocked to come up with 44 from the worst list and a couple locals that arent around and not on the list despite earning their spot. And I remember thinking they were just fine at the time. Now I is edgeimacated.

To be a little fair, a lot of those beers were actually fine for what they are/were - meaning no horrible off flavors or anything repulsive. And in my ignorant days, and low availability of better product, the bar was kinda low. Today they are not where I'd choose to burn my beer calories and I've long since given up drinking in (cheap) volume.

Yep. This is pretty much me exactly. When I was in college (many, many moons ago), beers like Schafer, Lucky s, Schmidt's, and Meister Brau didn't seem all that awful to me. Cost was the number one factor in my beer purchasing life back then, and it's fair to say I didn't have the most discriminating palate. Also, some of these beers were available at parties, and I just drank what was available.

So yeah... the bar back then was indeed set pretty low.

I guess what surprised me the most, when I read over the list, is that apparently a lot of the crappy beers I drank while in college are still around.

It's amazing to me that Meister Brau could consistently get such low ratings. It's hard to believe it could be that different from all the other cheap beers, including Pabst brands that Miller was brewing during the time the reviews were done (Blue Ribbon 2.95; Meister Brau 1.62). Or, possibly, Meister Brau was a test case to see if a beer could be successfully promoted that was made even more cheaply than the then-current crop of "price beers" (industry speak for cheap).

Rare is not necessarily better. In the 70s, we were doing a wide survey of the market at the time. Regal Select, Cascade, A-1, Peoples (Oshkosh), Bub's, Einbock Bock (Colorado), Lucky Draft, Lone Star Draft (LSD), Padre, Chippewa Pride, Walter's (Eau Claire), Edelweiss, Old Crown Ale were a few of the beers we consumed.

A lot of beers on there are truly awful, but a good number are perfectly adequate beers that are rated poorly just because beer snobs don’t appreciate AAL and Malt Liquor. I was gonna say that was an earlier feature of beer advocacy, but judging by this thread it appears to be live and well. To each their own. :beers:

I'm up to 101. Surprised I never checked this list... as if I need another number to chase.
