    Sig - Pilscifer fresh hop

16oz can served in a curvy Monhegan pint glass. Don't see a date on it, bought it about two weeks ago at Chuck's Hop Shop Seward Park.

Pours a clear yellow-orange with a medium sized head and moderate active carbonation. Smell is lemon and grass and flowers.

Taste is lemon zest and bitter resin, little bit of orange blossom and honeysuckle.

Mouthfeel is medium, smooth. Overall, pretty good -- probably the best Sig beer I've had.

Brasserie Vanuxeem (Belgium) ‘Queue de Charrue’ Triple.,.

Tap pour at ‘L’ancienne Belgique’ taproom in Toulouse. Arrived fully frothed and lovely.
Nose is alcohol forward, fruity notes.
Taste is surprisingly hoppy, fine malt back.
    Common triple mouthfeel, medium carbonation.
Overall, it’s okay, happy to try, but not as good as many Triples out there. 3.71/5 in the BA DB.

But the real story is discovering the bar this was enjoyed in. A little dive about the size of your living room that features only Belgian ales. 10 tap lines, appropriate logoed glassware for each, eclectic and funky decor. Trappist brews on tap, awesome bottle selection with some rarities, an engaging owner with a wealth of knowledge, fair prices. Looking forward to a return visit to spend a couple hours discovering.,. Cheers!

Welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday #1022! Loving your bar visit pic @MadMadMike

In about 48 hours, I'll be on a flight from ORD to LAS, my home away from home, and should have several contributions next weekend, including hopefully at least one or two fresh hop selections.

This is a Cream Ale, of which I've had a few, but not enough to consider myself very knowledgeable about this style beyond the light and easy nature these typically impart. My last one was during the same trip, and I noted Sulphur in the nose and taste.

Full link above. Bottom line, this is a craft stab at an AAL, very light, faint flavors, somewhat offensive aroma. I'm finishing it since the taste is OK.

    Take care everyone!

Good day BAs! Back again with another New Breakfast Beer:

While not my favorite style of beer, I have had a few...

Barrel-Aged Voodoo Love Child – from Voodoo. 16.9 fl oz bottle purchased from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA, 05/09/24, $ 11.50 (including tax), $ 0.681 /fl oz. Reviewed 22/09/24 (Review 3362). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated bottle. In room temperature storage at store. Stored at 34 degrees F at home. Served at 44.4 degrees F (Label says serve cold) in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 58.8 degrees F.
    Appearance – 4
First pour – Pale Gold (SRM 4), clear.
Body – Gold (SRM 5), clear. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, same.
Head – Average (Maximum 2.3 cm, aggressive center pour), cream, high density with a rocky top, moderately fizzy, short retention, leaving a 0.05 cm bubble ring, and a thin partial cap.
    Lacing – None.
Aroma – 3.5 – Weakly sweet with faint spiciness. No hops, no malt, no alcohol (9.5 % ABV, according to the label). Remains the same throughout the temperature range.
Flavor – 4.25 – Slightly sweet with subdued spiciness. Well-hidden alcohol. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Slight gastric warming. Ends dry. Note: for me, the wine barrels didn’t show up until the snifter had warmed up to 55 F – hardly “cold” by beer standards.
Palate – 4 – Full; approaching syrupy; lively but soft carbonation.
Style: Sort of follows the style guidelines, as condensed by BA.
Final Impression and summation: 3.75 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated personal container) Definitely allow this to warm and drink at cellar to warm temperatures in order to make the barrel characteristics pop. The head was small, fizzy, and not dense, leaving no lacing. At the bottle-suggested temperature (“Serve Cold”) most of the flavor doesn’t appear (at last to my taste).

More Unibroue from the mixed pack, Ce N'est Pas La Fin du Monde:
    Appearance: Cloudy orange, good head.

Smell: Light aroma, citrus peel and a touch of Belgian yeast.

Taste: Bready with a mild mix of spices, turns a little more towards citrus mixed with black pepper. Dry finish with continuing citrus and pepper.

Overall: This Belgian style IPA is kind of weird tasting in my opinion. Best by date is in 2026, so this is how they want it. Not bad but not my preferred mix of flavors.

Reasonably attractive beer, especially on the pour out of the bottle, where the reddish brown was most prominent. Decent legs.

Aroma was a little disappointing. Nothing bad about it, just much more muted than I expected based on the brewer's potentially hyperbolic description. I get some fruit and molasses but nothing that stands out.

Thankfully the flavors are more prominent on the tongue than the nose. Vanilla and sherry combine with moderate caramel notes, with pineapple showing up on the finish. Somehow, the pineapple works, which is a little bit of a surprise.

    Overall, a nice sipper.

Today’s new to me beer - Alesmith’s Coffee & Beer - Kölsch, in collab with Weathered Souls Brewing, and What’s Brewing Coffee - Columbia Finca El Jardin Single Origin coffee:

Canned 2/29/24. Poured at 50°. Pale gold with excellent clarity; tight white head; poor cap retention; no ring, no lace. Mild coffee aroma. Light grainy semi sweet malt; no coffee. Medium light body, moderate carbonation; dry finish. Overall, a crisp clean beer with h a hint of coffee in the nose.

Toasty, biscuit notes from German malts are complemented by the earthy, floral tones of noble hops, making this a Prost-worthy pint with a finish as crisp as the Vermont air. Smooth , quaffable, Good beer, suitable for sitting around a picnic table, talking with friends, listening to music nibbling on some food and pretending like you’re in the Wies’n

Getting my Weiss on since I can’t be in Munich, this is the next best thing

Question: What is better than having one beer with chinook in it over the weekend?

Answer: Having two of them, both from the same brewery :beers:

My best friend and I try to meet at Tonewood at opening on Sunday once every couple months…sometimes it’s just him, today his partner tagged along for the fun and caught me taking this picture :stuck_out_tongue: I believe we were at the same table @ChicagoJ and @cjgiant

After talking with the bartender about how much I enjoyed the beer discussed below he said he thinks it may get into cans next time since people have loved it. I can see why…

It’s a very classic hops (cascade, centennial, chinook) forward pilsner with a touch of modern, aka riwaka dry hop; here is my quick “not being rude” while hanging with friends review. They had some cool new shirts and glassware that I fought the urge to buy, proud of myself on that front

Tonewood - Chilly Bin (West Coast Pils 5.2%)

Crystal clear, gold laden straw; perfectly white head; creamy layer of froth that sticks around.

Nose is quite pungent and aromatic; citrus pith, pine, floral character, then NZ hits; little white grape little diesel quality, ripe fruit, but not overpowering; crackery malt.

The taste is again hop forward; the NZ shines; white grape and some fruitiness, but finishes off with a nice piney bite; and citrus.

Light body; hops coat the tongue, sticky and lightly chewy, clean firm bitterness that lingers, cleanly lagered and highly drinkable beer.

Tonewood just keep doing your thing!

This beer was very good because somehow all the hops didn’t get in the way of drinkability; I’m always impressed when a lager can be at the same time hoppy and highly drinkable. I hope this one sees cans next go around.

Off to soccer in a few hours then hopefully dip into a nice fall night with an Oktoberfest on the deck. I hope everyone has a lovely evening and work week; see you next weekend. Cheers Everyone :beers:

    Brasserie Destral (France) Black Porter

Fresh 33 cl bottle gifted to me by my son.
Poured into a short glass with a tan foam up top deep brown brew. 4.5% ABV.
Nose is rich with roasted malt, a whiff of dark chocolate too.
Taste is roast forward, a titch of molasses, but a tad thin in length.
    Mouthfeel is light, low-medium carbonation.
Overall, if I took the time to enter this micro brewery in the data base, this offering would sit a solid 4.

Destral is a brewery founded in Ariège, 70 km due south of Toulouse, in a valley of the Pyrénées mountains.
The brewery produces only 3 beers that are fundamentally unique.
. Blonde Style 100% pure malt
    . Black Style Porter
    . Citra Style IPA
I’ve heard arguments that there is no ‘terroir’ in beer brewing, but pure mountain water, locally grown wheat and French ‘Strisselspalt’ hops make this Certified Organic brew a truly terroritorial delight.

Drekker/Homes collab Little Maniacs NEIPA, 6.6% ABV. Pours hazy golden with a 2 finger white head that left great lacing. Aroma is fruity and faintly popcorn (acetyl). Taste follows, plus malt, slightly sweet, equally bitter. Excellent mouthfeel, juicy yet slightly dry. Overall excellent.

Block 15 - Sticky Hands Fresh Hop

16oz can served in a big snifter. Packaged 09/16/24, six days ago. Bought it at Beer Authority last night (had it on tap there, too, but reviewing from scratch since it was a social situation).

Pours moderately hazy, light amber-gold, smallish head. Head is dense around the edges and coarse in the middle, small amount of very fine carbonation. Smell is a little boozy, very dank, some melon and melon rind, some earthy bitterness.

Taste is again on the boozy side, but again tons of dankness and melon rind, earthy bitterness, some grain husk sweetness, maybe a hint of honeysuckle.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, maybe a bit on the heavy side, not very lively but not sticky or chewy. Overall, very nice beer.

Poured from a pint can, the body is a dark amber with a small white head. Not much lacing.

Aroma is a lightly sweet caramel, banana, malt and honey.

Taste follows nose with a more assertive rich malt flavor, though not too heavy by any means. A hint of bitterness keeps things in balance.

Mouthfeel is light but good carbonation. A bit of lightly sweet malt lingering upon finish.

Thanks to @resist for this delicious amber.
