Why do you dislike going there - sheer curiosity.

It's totally a 'Me' thing, not on the brewery at all. The beer is awesome, and they are certainly worth visiting.

It's a plain, white room, with no visual stimulation on the walls. It always seems to be full of New Money Seattle tech-bro douchenozzles. The constant, exclusive, drone of dull, boring, heavy metal gets on my nerves quickly. I can just go to Structures here in town for that.

LOL - fair enough - I don't live there so have only gone for I bet a grand total of an hour or so over 3 visits, so not long enough to be annoyed, but I loved your response. Do you delineate between Phinney / and the OG?

Personally, I'd skip Lucky Envelope and substitute it with Fair Isle, Stoup, and/or Urban Family (in that order)

I've never been to the Phinney spot, so I'm talking about the OG. I don't go down to Seattle much, but it seems like whenever I do go with my friends, we go there. Just put some damn art on the walls, and mix in the occasional non metal song to break up the monotony. Probably not much to be done about the techbros, I don't think I have enough rope to tie them all to the railroad tracks.....

The Phinney spot is much more of a neighborhood brewpub vibe (and allows kids), whereas the OG spot is just a straight up, fairly spartan, 21+ taproom. I personally don't have a preference, but if you're in Ballard already, it would probably be easier to go over to the Phinney location. Great beers at both spots though.

I am going to the upcoming Zach Bryan concert in Tacoma. My hotel is in Puyallup. I was thinking about getting up there around 1 and having a few beers at Fremont, then go check in at hotel around 4.

Is parking easy around Fremont? Maps tell me it is a 50 minute drive from Fremont to my hotel. Is this accurate? Or plan for longer?

Or would it be smarter to avoid Seattle and stay close to Puyallup/Tacoma? I see that Tacoma has E9 Brewing. Thoughts on this brewery? I just recognize the name.

    Thanks.

If money is no object, then there's a pay lot right across the street from the Urban Beer Garden. Otherwise, I can usually find street parking in the neighborhood without too much of an effort. And unfortunately, 50 minutes from Puyallup to Fremont sounds about right. If traffic is bad it can easily be longer than that.

Is it better to stay in Tacoma rather than drive up to Fremont? I would say yes, but that's a call only you can make. I like Fremont a lot, but the drive up there from Tacoma can be pretty unpleasant. In Tacoma there's the Red Hot, Pint Defiance, the Parkway Tavern, and the E9. Personally, I've a fondness for the Parkway, but all of those places are pretty good. The E9 is a brewpub type facility, featuring their own beers and usually an interesting selection of guest beers. Their sours are pretty popular and well regarded... the rest of their lineup has always struck me as pretty middle of the road. So I usually go with the guest lineup. The Parkway doesn't list their taplist online, but they typically have close to 30 different craft beers on tap. The E9, Pint Defiance and Redhot post their taplists, though they're not always up to date.

Whatever you decide to do, enjoy your time there.

Helpful. I only thought about Fremont because I have never been. Also, thought about a Georgetown.

My buddy is leaning to staying in Puyallup/Tacoma area. Avoid traffic as much as possible. Anyone else have thoughts on a brewery or beer spot in this area? I like pretty much all beer, except sours.

Is it more about visiting the original location than the beer? Fremont also has a Columbia City location that would be a shorter drive for you. It's also close to Machine House brewing if you're into cask style beer.

I saw that location. Cuts off about 10 minutes. Definitely an option. I also like cask style. Hmmm.

I should mention my buddy doesn’t drink, so I told him I wouldn’t be dragging him to a bunch of breweries. Thinking that is why he’d prefer staying closer to hotel/venue.

There are actually quite a few breweries in the Tacoma area. Unfortunately, I haven't been to very many of them. I have been to seven seas and Narrows brewing. Their stuff is OK, but neither place makes beer I'd go out of my way to find.

Georgetown is a great spot with great beer. Plus, there's a Grape Lotion outpost nearby. But again, it's a bit of a drive to get to from Tacoma/Puyallup.

Narrows Brewing is worthy of a stop when the weather is nice. Their patio has a scenic view of the Narrows and the Narrows Bridge. The view makes their beer taste better.

Agreed. And of course it's within walking distance of the E9 (right across the street).
