I don't think this has been posted in a while but if so, I'll ask for forgiveness later. Thought it interesting to compare the states with highest/lowest beer taxes. My state, Georgia, is in the bottom ten (boooo!). Good on you Wyoming! Tennessee? Volunteer State needs to have a revolt. Cheers!

From the Tax Foundation, a nice sortable list.

Very interesting information. Another reason why all of the Mpls/St. Paul folks drive to Hudson WI for beer:stuck_out_tongue:!
    Thanks for posting!

Lol! All the beer stores have to be on the GA side of the border. Makes little sense otherwise!

I can't believe PA has the 4th lowest. Well done PA.

3rd highest here in Kentucky. Assume it is because of the bourbon??

It does seem like we are taxed heavily in other areas! Good to see we are doing well in low beer taxation!

Most likely. They are used to taxing higher ABV more anyway. Might as well beer.

    Gas being free and all

biggest takeaway I get from this list is there’s next to no correlation between the taxes and quality of the product. I see great beer states dispersed throughout, and bad beer states on all ends

Well, it is government we're talking about. If there's a better way to do something, government will find another way.

I'll gladly drive my hybrid vehicle (44 mpg, damn near free ) across the river for $8.99 six packs of New Glarus beer:stuck_out_tongue:! Cheers!

I grew up (my wife would debate that) in Wisconsin about 45 miles from Casanova, but didn't discover it until I lived in SD and got into craft. I've made several beer runs there under the auspices of an outlet-mall trip for the women-folk. Have to do something while they shop. I was near there a couple of weeks ago, but had a limited window during Friday Mpls rush hour, and it didn't work out, so just went to a Total Whine.

How has that astronomical tax in Tennessee impacted sales? If it hasn’t, I would advise every other state to go that high in a search for generating more revenue.

Lived 6 months in New Brighton, 6 in Blaine, visited several times a year from 2012-2018. Made my share of Casanova runs. While prices were better, it was the Sunday factor and them having Toppling Goliath sometimes that made the trips worth the time and gas.

Wait until CA discovers they only rank 30. This P.O.S. state will certainly raise the tax now that they see they can go a lot higher before being the "worst". Gotta pay for all that social engineering and handouts some way!

Yeah, archaic MN liquor laws were a huge factor in residents heading to Nova! At least they corrected that one!

You are right. The highest nationally is $1.29 a gallon or only about $0.73 a 72oz. sixpack! The excise taxes on all alcoholic beverages have become trivial since they haven't risen with price like sales taxes do (automatically, and through legislation). Sales taxes have a bigger impact in many locations.

I’m shocked Massachusetts ranks so well and the best in Mew England. Must make up for it in every other area. They don’t call us Taxachusetts for nothing…..
