Obviously, over the last year or so there's been an explosion in the number of people collecting glassware (due in part to the explosion in the number of craft beer fans and probably also due to breweries expeanding glassware options). Whenever anyone posts an ISO: Specific Glass, you can expect at least 3 others to jump in with an "me next" post - not that there's anything wrong with wanting to expand your collection, I've got a couple hundred glasses myself.
But I'm curious about how many pieces of one particular glass people buy when they are available (CBS snifters, Fantome tulips, even things like Darkness Day or Hunahpu Day glassware)? It helps on shipping to buy more than one, but that's obviously not the main reason to buy quantity, how many folks are buying in quantity to trade?
I can see picking up multiple "brewery only" glassware for trade, since most of us won't have access, but not sure what the incentive to get multiples of glassware readily available on-line is?

In the interest of full disclosure, the only glasses I've bought in the last year were the Fantome tulip (got 2) and the CBS snifter (1), most of my collection goes back to earlier stuff I had and have traded for. So is glassware hoarding the new sickness permeating the beer community? Just curious

    Cheers!

Im always collecting something and the coolness of all the glasses coming out make them a must have for me. I also grab multiples sometimes in case I break one. Yesteday I clinked my myers duvel tulip off my granite counter pretty hard and it didn't even chip thankfully!

I would say that the '11 DLD snifters are are hoarded, I hope they have them again this year

I try to buy two of each different glass if it is somewhat hard to get. One will go into the kitchen cabinet and go in "rotation" and the second will go into a display case as a backup . I just received my Hunaphu and Cigar City snifters today. They look to be about half the size of the CBS snifter next to them .

it really depends on how i get the glass. if ordering online, i will rarely order just one of something unless part of a larger order. i usually will aim for 2, mostly because i get butter fingers sometimes a few deep when washing. rarely will i buy more than that, but on a few occasions i nabbed 3. at southampton, they had a commemorative snifter which i grabbed 4 of. 2 i gave away and 1 i traded, and kept the last. in the end i only need one of each and am getting to the point of just one of everything, even limited brews.

I learned my lesson by trying to wash my glasses right after I have been drinking. Now I always wait till the next morning. Glass + Soap + Drinking = Fail.

If rinsed properly, a small amount of dish soap does not hurt anything. I have no issues with Head or off flavors. I use 1 bottle brush for my glasses only and a drop of soap will do quite a few glasses.

I definitely wash my glasses with a little dish soap after each use. I have a wet bar in the basement so I have a dedicated sponge, rinse thoroughly with scalding water and air dry in a drying rack. I've never had an issue with head retention or water spots. And like someone said above, I generally won't wash a glass right after drinking, I rinse it out and leave it in the sink until I'm a little more sure handed.

    Cheers!

I wash my glasses with a small drop of scentless dish soap, scalding hot water, and a beer glass dedicated sponge, followed up by a heavy rinse with hot water. I haven't had any issues with head retention. The key is in the rinse.

Grabbed 5 of those nasty 22oz SH snifters myself. Gave one away and kept 4 for when I have tastings at my place. At this moment I use them and Duvel glasses exclusively. They are seriously bad ass.

Yep, they made them this year, first time. We bought 4, along with our Hunahpu of course. :-)
