Fresh Hop 2024

Is it the best ever FH? No. But it is the one I most look forward to each year. Score one for the (semi) local team. Super solid as usual.


PS…if I lived in Portland, the number one FH beer I would look forward to? FH Volatile Substance. And it very well could be the FH beer to rule all FH beers.

 

Here’s what’s below the fresh hop shelf—mostly 10%+ stuff. Plus I have a door full of Orval (21 bottles). The goal is to clear most of this out in time for fresh hop season 2025. Again, no buddy to help with most of this. Maybe I should get on the liver transplant list now.

Had one of those this afternoon—honestly Bale Breaker and Single Hill should just join forces at this point.

 

Where are you WA folks finding the FH Breakside?

I picked up my FH Double Wanderlust w/ Crystal at Central Market (Town and Country Shoreline) on Saturday. Even posted about it here (see Breakside cans lower left).

 

Actually I know you saw this one because you liked it. I’ve seen at least one other Breakside FH Wanderlust release posted on here but this is the only one I’ve seen (in person anyway).

 

Yeah, but that post doesn't specify *where* and it has a *lot* of distractions...lol

I'm going to be so close tomorrow, but probably not quite make it there. I think my wife wants to go look for a weird specific ingredient at a different town and country, maybe she'll scope something out for me...

 

Good point, I just assumed you could read my mind. Shoreline seems to have the best selection, I sometimes stop at Ballard Market too but they don’t seem to have the same volume or variety.

If you expect to be in the Maple Leaf neighborhood soon I’ll just save my other can and give it to you. Let me know.

 

Don't hold it on my account, but I will definitely let you know the next time I'm in the area. I have a close friend near there, and I have a Japanese guest that wants to visit some American craft breweries.

 

As you’ve seen, I have plenty of other beer on hand. Unfortunately the Breakside is the oldest FH beer in my fridge (bought last weekend but packaged 8/16) so it should be consumed soon—but I’ll hold it for a while just in case, I don’t mind.

 

Tonight’s FH, the centennial from Gigantic, is a month out from canning. It’s an all arojnd well balanced beer. Wish it had a more in your face freshie character though.

 

I wish I had a whole shelf in the fridge!

 

Barley Brown's Hop Truck Crossing with citra is excellent, no surprise there. Great FH pop that initially came across as too bitter, but balanced out very nicely once the glass warmed up slightly. Now I need to find some FH pallet jack on tap...

 

FH #2, FH Phaedrus, knocks it out of the park!

 

FH Volatile Substance.
Right up there in the top tier.
