Going up for the first time this weekend. What beers should I hope they have to go?

I don’t know what styles you are into but they list having Everett and Arthur so I would start there. In the morning of your visit go on their website and order what you want so you can reserve it before anything sells out that day. You can edit the order when you pick up in person.

The Abbey in Brookline has consistently had a tap for the last couple months as well.

I honestly haven’t met a style of beer I don’t like. Are those the two main flagship ones?

    Edward: flagship pale ale
    Susan: flagship IPA
    Abner: flagship DIPA
    Everett: flagship porter
    Arthur: flagship farmhouse

If you check their toast site right now, some of those are available now, and barring anything selling out the same stuff as today should be available tomorrow. You can’t really go wrong with anything.

Personally if I were going up this weekend I’d be leaving with the Excursions IPA (they do New Zealand hops very well), Everett, Marie, and Civil Disobedience 38. (And a bunch of other stuff, because who am I kidding, but those would be must grabs for me.)

if they have any of Autumna, Poetica, Rhetorica, Memoria on for growlers, I’d get those too (their best lagers).

Thanks so much! So they aren’t known too much for stouts or barley wines? I like all of the styles you mentioned so I’ll def pick those up! Just heard a lot about how a pilgrimage is needed there so I’ll stop there on a visit to my old college roommates

They definitely are known for their fantastic stouts, but those are not available to go too often. They will definitely have some for drinking on site though and I highly recommend them! Their barleywine is Aaron and is very good as well.

    Not Harlan?
    Regardless, I prefer Susan

Interesting, I thought Harlan was Edward with Columbus, but you’re right, looking at it it’s an IPA. Not sure if they’d call Harlan or Susan more a flagship than the other, but I’m with ya that the latter is the better.

A bit of an out-of-the-ordinary request, but something I'm betting this thread will have input on...

I'm taking a trip up to the area at the end of Oct / beginning of Nov with my wife, who is in her third trimester of pregnancy. Of course, we'll be stopping at Hill... but because she won't be able to imbibe more than a few sips here or there, I was hoping to also try some cheese and maple syrup in the are (namely because she's had bizarre cravings for cheese despite typically sticking to a vegan diet lol).

I know that Jasper Hill is a standout, but otherwise any recommendations on either specific syrup/cheese or, better yet, places to pick them up or try near Greensboro and Waterbury?

Willey's had a ton of Jasper Hill when I was there a few years ago. Dedalus Wine in Stowe also had a stacked cheese section.

How often do they have these on tap? I'll be at Hill next week, and it's a bummer that they currently don't have any of these currently available. Poetica was one of my favorite beers from my last visit to Hill.

Hunger Mountain Co-op has a good selection and will let you try if monger is around, which I'd guess they often are.

I don;t have an answer as to "how often" but they had Poetica on tap when I visited in August and I enjoyed drinking that beer. I discussed it in a past NBW thread:

Hopefully you will luck out and it will be on tap for you too.

    Cheers!

You want the Cabot Creamery in Waterbury. Cheese samples out the wazoo. (I assume this is happening again postpandemic by now) Worth a stop at least even if you find some more upscale cheese places.

They still have some samples but nothing like they had pre-Covid.

Cabot has a new spot in the Yellow Barn in Hardwick which I think is open now and much closer to HF. I think they are supposed to have other cheese and local items for sale as well but have no firsthand experience.

Most of the best spots for cheese have been mentioned. There's the Cabot location in Waterbury (same parking lot has a large Lake Champlain Chocolates location) but as others have mentioned the spot in Hardwick (Yellow Barn) is now open too. The top location for Jasper Hill cheese is The Willey's Store in Greensboro. About 5 minutes from Jasper Hill, its the retail location with the most variety and the best prices for JH cheese in the country. Willey's is also only about 7 minutes from HF.

Not sure if they're still open for the season, but Crossroad Maple in Hardwick is on your route from Waterbury/Stowe to HF. That's where we get our maple. It's nothing fancy, but we love it.

@William_Navidson DM if you have questions...I'm local to the area.

Beautiful, think I'm all set with plenty of options. I figured this would spur some lively recommendations lol. Thank you all @dubdrop @grn_mtns @yuppiescum

On the beer front, what are the odds that DB Beyond Good and Evil lasts until next week? Asking for a friend. (The friend is me.)
