Aldi in Kenosha usually has Spotted Cow. Don't ask me about prices.

Woody's is your best bet for price and selection.

I'm sorry, did you call Woodman's "Woodys"? Did you just make that up?

My Aldi's has New Glarus but it is very basic year round stuff; no Thumbprint series.

Not sure if I can claim the fame of making it up, but have been calling it that for around 24 years.

I know I'll be taking an October trip to Wisconsin for the Barleywine. I think it's long past time for a trip to Eau Claire.

I had a nice experience at the Brewing Project. Very close to the Lazy Monk (2 minute walk)

Also had a nice time at the Hilltop Tavern. Tons of fresh German beers and good food.

Is the barleywine out in the world? Any reports?

Likewise for Blacktop. Feels like forever since that was around. I recall liking it, but that’s about all the detail I remember.

I checked with @azuelke earlier this week, and still not out yet.

I drank Blacktop 2 weekends ago up at the cabin. At first I thought it was just ok but after drinking more of it at home I like more. It kinda grew on me.
I have not been to WI in a few days but haven't seen barleywine yet.

A few places in Madison have reported getting barleywine yesterday. I haven't seen anybody in the MKE area with it yet. I imagine next week it'll be everywhere.

I'm drinking my first can of Barley Wine 24.
Transparent amber body with very nice persistent head that leaves some nice lacing.
Smell: sweet malt, toffee, fruity berry, hint of alcohol on the finish.
Taste: Follows the nose. Seems to have a hint of ester/earth towards the the finish. Sweet at first but finishes bitter and slightly dry.
Feel is ok, malty not thick or thin.
4.19/5 today, might change my numbers after a few more cans.

The Barley Wine is quite nice. Let's just say it's very different than the barley wines I'm accustomed to. BW24 is sweet and resinous, but certainly not weak. Every other BW tends to be heavily hopped, bitter, and thrown in a bourbon barrel. BW24 is certainly not that. It's refreshing to have a different take on the style.

Sounds like a good idea. Now, if we could only get them to open on weekends!

Absolutely bonkers that NG can be 12th largest craft brewer and only distros one state….maybe with the expansion they could tackle another? Come back to Illinois. We’ve missed you.

If this beer were aged in bourbon barrels I’d be singing its praises. As it stands now for the style it is basically the nice guy in the dating world. It’s safe, clean, nice, approachable, and your mom won’t find anything wrong with it, but at the end of the day you are going to be bored and wanting more excitement.
