What's the beverage selection looking like at the Moda Center? I am taking an offspring and her friend to a concert this weekend. I'll likely need it.
I was there last night for PJ Harvey, but it was a "Theater of the Clouds" show, so only about 1/3 of the arena was open. I only saw Elysian beers. I'd imagine there are more/different offerings throughout the whole venue, but last time I was there was pre-pandemic, so things may have changed.
Recent (within the past few days) Untappd checkins for Moda Center have plenty of Coors and Elysian along with a Wayfinder option (Pärty Pils, very good) and a Breakside option (their excellent flagship IPA, in cans).
I was at the Moda Center last Thursday for The National and War on Drugs (good fun btw). Needless to say, I was not the only aging white guy with a greying beard, looking for a proper beverage. They have a solid-looking section with the aforementioned Wayfinder and Breakside cans with some other local options thrown in. Beware though - the cans I saw were all OLD this time - sometime in April, was the freshest. I have been to Blazer games when they have fresh ones. I am guessing the volume they go through has something to do with it. The Elysian on tap, was what I went with. I am not sure it was better or worse but at stinging $16 per pint, there is no Elysian beer that will live up that that price point regardless.
YIKES. That's worse than Providence Park pricing, and every bit as bad as Climate Pledge up in Seattle.
This is my take as well. While I enjoy a cold one at a concert or sporting event, I can absolutely wait till after the event to drink it. Especially when there's that kind of price disparity.
Opted to double fist at the Elysian. I mean, Space Dust and 96 are easy to go! But yeah, 16 per is crazy.
Wonder if Moda will be charging $16 for this at Blazers games. I imagine the 4-pack you can pick up at the Rogue pub or grocery stores will cost less than that. Probably.
Probably. A couple seasons back I think I paid $16 for a GN Ripe at the Blazer vs Celtic game. So I am guessing those will be $24 now.
Saw Iron Maiden last week, yeah the whole venue is locked down with MillerCoors and ABI craft options. Sizzle Pie has an ongoing agreement to have Wayfinder on tap at all their locations, so Party Time Pils is in fact served at the stadium, just gotta hop in the pizza line for a pour! Just outside of the venue you can pregame at Dr Jacks, the beers were much more varied with local options and about half the cost per pour. I got one of those leave your feedback emails and stated plainly the venue is on the national average for drinks prices and the stadium has been lacking the ability to fill the arena to capacity for sporting games, a measured response would be to drink drinks prices down closer to street prices. Most certainly that will fall on death ears but here's hoping!
Why are they going wit national average? Who cares a fuck about what crap they serve for crappy prices in Chicago or Atlanta..THis IS PORTLAND. Be like PDX and buck the stupid tend!
That was the exact sentiment I gave in the survey. They already cut off serving past a certain point to curb over serving, why not generate more sales by pricing at what visitors might be expecting knowing PDX?
