Every time I hear Lone Pine I think of drinking beers at the rooftop bar on top of Bayside Bowl in Portland......Great Place. Damn now I want to go back....
As much as I go to Portland I’ve never been to that bar. For rooftop drinking I’ve always gone to Luna or the top of the Westin.
For anyone who remembers and wants a chuckle. There was a short period when Lone Pines upper patio area was open and you could walk from the indoor taproom and cross the driveway. Then walk up the hill into the upper patio area. I saw so many people stumble, drop drinks or even fall(with drinks). There was once short steep area of dirt. Nothing serious happened but what a fucking mess it could be when people were already tipsy from the breweries. Then the whole beef between them and Goodfire began, cutting any alcohol transfer out of the indoor and across the driveway. They tried the outdoor bar but I believe that may have failed as well. Then I think they lost the spot all together up there? Someone may correct some of this but I believe I’m correct. It was around Covid. Heard maybe it came back in 24 but was diff?
I haven’t seen that area open for awhile. Although now that I think about it I don’t think I’ve been to that Lone Pine or Goodfire in maybe a year or two.
I believe(and this is just what we were told, I believe twice) that Goodfire wasn’t pleased with the pedestrian traffic across what was an access way and commercial driveway for their Brewey and some parking for patrons. I also don’t think they loved being in the back of the building and lone pine essentially having two patio areas(one attacked and the obvious huge one) and it sort of was a free for all for Lone pine up there. Which to GF credit and as I said, I saw people dropping drinks and stumbling. Eventually they pushed the issue and the land owner cut off all drinks outside of their taproom patio or crossing the driveway. Then lone pine just had the upper bar they made which wasn’t great and at one point had maybe one or two taps and then just cans. I remember going, seeing and leaving. Eventually I believe the space was closed. For the record. I love goodfire and the folks there. Also, have never been wronged by LP
I like Goodfire as well which is mostly why I was asking. I found Lone Pine less impressive but this was more recent (2023). Need to get back to Maine soon.
I haven't been up there for a few years, but it certainly looked like they were doing *something* in that area this year... https://www.instagram.com/p/C4xu83ur1yQ
