Happy Thursday BAs! I'm currently enjoying an All Day IPA on a drizzling, dreary November afternoon. Cheers!

Is Founders regularly available where you are? Any other of their brews?

Ayinger Oktoberfest (5.8%): A German Marzen that has authentic German hop and malt flavors hops and spices atop toasty, bready caramel malts.

One of the best German Marzens available. Ayinger does so many beers well. This has an impeccable balance of orange and toasty caramel without being too sweet. Amazing balance, drinkability, and complexity. Almost sad this is only a seasonal. If you think you don't like Oktoberfest Marzens, this may change your mind.
I am looking forward to this great Thursday Night Football matchup tonight.

Agree totally on the Ayinger Fest Bier @defunksta . Always had great beers from that brewery, and it's one of the few Oktoberfests offerings I actually seek out these days.

This is the final over 1 year old "drink fresh" beer style in my refrigerator. This looked / looks like 7 Up while pouring, but smells and tastes near fresh. Held up very well since June 26, 2023.

[IMG] My wife and I spent a few hours together and I have some tasty beers again. I need to make them last. We grabbed some other treats to share. Feeling much better now. Citra, Galaxy, and Mosaic Cryo 8.2%. That hop bill for me is a sure thing.

Trying Bud for the first time in a while. I can definitely taste the rice - I have tasted it in a few other beers also, then look them up to see if they have it as an ingredient...and sure enough, it's in there. Lends a very unique sweetness that corn doesn't give...despite the assertion it does nothing to the flavor. I like it, although I can see why some don't.

Anyway, a bone-in half ham cooking and a sleeping German Shepherd next to me, life is good....

Slow rolling a few Urquell this afternoon.

One strange silver lining of where my palate's at after two full weeks of illness: the bitterness in SoS is enhanced, giving it even more of an old-school vibe. I'm digging it.

Pours a mildly cloudy yellow, body is mainly opaque yellow; lively carbonation; decent head, white and frothy. Notes of ctirus and stone fruits in the smell; light presence of oats. Taste includes tangerine and white grapefruit; decent hop bitterness towards the finish. Medium-heavy mouthfeel; a bit glassy on the palate but does finish with a bit raspiness and dryness on the palate.

I can't figure this beer out. They've changed the hop profile since June (American Noble Citra and Galaxy), but it still looks and drinks more like a juicy, fruity hazy India pale ale and not the west coast IPA the label still calls it. For that reason, I've knocked down my Look, Taste and Feel scores and left the overall the same. Regardless, I'd hardly classify this as a WCIPA. It still drinks okay for a general American IPA.

    ABV: 7%; pouring temperature: 51.1 ℉; canning info: 24/10/31

    4.25 3.75 3.5 4.0 3.75; BA weighted overall score: 3.71; rDev: 0%

Clear, pale yellow body; dense, lively carbonation; thick head, white and semi-creamy, billowy and sculpted; spidery fingers of foam inside the glass. Very favorable nose; spicy and floral; subtle peppermint. Pretty flat flavor; wispy malt presence; light hop bitterness. Medium-light body; crisp; lightly dry overall.

I had high hopes for this beer. Both collaborators make some fine beers, but this one kind of falls apart at the flavor point. It's not tasteless, more hop bitterness than any sort of malt flavor, yet seems rather bland in the grand scheme of things. A decent west coast India pale ale, but lacks pizzazz.

    ABV: 7%; pouring temperature: 51 °F; canning info: n/a
    Hops: Elani and Moutere hops

I almost caved and bought some Urquell today because your posts made me thirsty...maybe next time.

I believe seafood would complement those Black IPAs quite well. Damn they were good! Moving along through Ye Aulde Bier Stübe...Old Irving Scentinel IPA on this grey, dim, damp, cold, perfect day for beers ;-) :beers::beers:

Thanks. It will be retired soon as some of the printing has peeled off, but I get a new one each year with my annual donations. They stream live, and perhaps you'll like some shows they host.

Glen Ellyn, Illinois (Western suburb out of Chicago) https://wdcb.org/programs

The two other stations I like stream are
Each of the three focus on local artists and styles while also playing a wide range of jazz and other styles. Do you listen to Jazz 88 in Minneapolis?

The Roy Haynes Trio Featuring Danilo Perez And John Patitucci played in the one o'clock hour.

Man, piano jazz...so good. There's a jazz club in NYC that streams live every night on YouTube - starts around 8pm or so and goes until 1 or 2 am. It's really neat to see and hear the talent.

I have flipped on Jazz88 from time to time, but am kind of picky...having worked in commercial radio for years, I prefer just straight music (no ads/talking/etc). The exception is anything with Leigh Kamman and the Jazz Image... fortunately that show is preserved online and more episodes are being discovered.

One of my friends here who I'm connected to through law enforcement - her dad was a world famous jazz player and played with her uncle (who's still alive but an ex-pat now), we are starting to find more and more interviews with him, both on Kamman's show and online...there's a really good book about the history of jazz in Minnesota and how it influenced the country, let me see if I can find it, its in my massive pile of books...

Here's the book! Decided to switch over to Hamm's, another Minnesota iconic beer...it's weird to think Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Peggy Lee...all of them played the Minneapolis circuit regularly in addition to New Orleans, Chicago, KC...
