1) New Glarus Black Top (6.9% no bottling date): A Black IPA from Wisconsin with flavors of orange citrus, bitter pine and lightly toasty and roasted notes. Clean.
versus
2) Sierra Nevada Celebration (6.8% canned 10/9/24): An IPA from California with Cascade, Centennial, Chinook for flavors of soapy orange, pine resin, and a smooth caramel malt body. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Happy Friday Night Fight Night BeerAdvocates. I promised I would do this beer battle after claiming I thought Black Top was a better winter IPA than Celebration. Two heavyweights. New Glarus Black Top. An incredibly surprisingly complex black IPA. Citrus, bitter pine, lightly roasty and a clean, bitter, and lightly roasty finish. Complex and a dynamic beer.
Next is Celebration. A fan favorite. Wet hops. Resinous tangerine, orange, and soapy pine notes. Caramel and slightly sweet.
Overall Celebration is far sweeter and packs a bit more flavor. So I'll concede the first round to Celebration. However, I have a feeling Black Top is going to do better with time in the later rounds. We'll visit this battle again soon.
Winner Round 1: Sierra Nevada Celebration.

Drekker Truly, Madly, Deeply (8.2% canned 11/4/24): A NEIPA from North Dakota with Simcoe Cryo, Citra Cryo, Citra and HBC 586 for flavors of grapefruit, passionfruit, pineapple, tropical mango/melon.

A super fresh IPA from Drekker. When you can get an IPA 11 days fresh such a great brewery two states away, we are truly living in great times. This is a new release from Drekker. Some Citra plus some Simcoe and HBC586 to add some tropical notes.
I've always said IPAs can be too fresh. This is another time when I jumped the gun too early. That distinct and vague hop burn aroma and flavor. Not bad, but I can tell this needs a couple more weeks to settle into it's full form.
I think often the peak IPA time is the 3-7 week range. This one will settling into it's flavors, but too early to tell.

Gosh I enjoyed @LesDewitt4beer 's beer tear today. A fantastic lineup.
@FRANKHAZE I don't have cool photos like that. But the benefit is I also don't live among dinosaurs!
