    Howdy all!

La Trappe Quadrupel, getting colder and colder. Midweek is even expected some snowfall and slightly freezing temperatures.

    Cheers!

You said it. Somehow winter was on hold until now.

    Good morning.
These are my impressions of a "your" beer that has traveled a long way to get here.
A warm thought to those who think that in this thread we talk every day "only about IPA".

Phase Three Brewing Co. (Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA) - NIU - Toasted Coconut Porter (6,3%).

16 Oz FL Can - 1 American Pint (47.31 cl).
Dates printed on the bottom of the can are not legible (quite shameful this thing).
Bought from the shelves of the beer shop for €12.50.
As soon as it is opened, toasted aromas of roasting, amply sweetened by notes of vanilla and toasted coconut.
When poured, it is black, impenetrable, topped by a large and soft foam that transmits a soft and creamy sensation.
In the mouth, a medium/full bodied beer, quite dense and oily.
The taste sensation is that of toasted notes, primarily those of coffee, which let a quick bitter note of dark chocolate leak out, immediately sweetened and nuanced by toasted notes of coconut (and vanilla - my impression), which lead the beer to a smooth finish that dries the tongue a little, leaving a sweet taste on the taste buds, but never invasive or excessive, of coconut milk and toasted vanilla. Present, but more subtle, notes of coffee and chocolate on the palate.
A beer with great balance, in which each element is present without overwhelming the others.

Considering the habits of my place, I would consider that the body of the beer is more of a Stout than a Porter.
Or an "American" Porter, here the Porters are less demanding to drink both in terms of body and flavor intensity.
In any case, I really appreciated the overall balance, the predominant roasted sensations and the fact that the sweetness, which inevitably forms the background to this beer, never took over the notes of roasting and chocolate that remain in the background, re-emerging on the palate at the end of the drink.
It has preserved itself very well for the kilometers (and the inevitable stresses) that it has faced.
It certainly has a price that is not very accessible, but the quality is unquestionable and above all even our local beers of this level do not stray far from these prices; I mean the ones that use real ingredients: hand-peeled vanilla pods, hand-toasted coconut (see the local Imperial Stouts from Brasseria della Fonte).

    Happy Monday BAs....

Not sure what happened to that "sunny" forecast today - it has been overcast all morning.....

Tomorrow - 11/19 is my 15 year BA anniversary - damn! I wonder what I should drink tomorrow to celebrate?? A deep dive in the cellar may be in order to mark this occassion! Plus, I got some "beer karma", so I got that going for me! Haha!

decided to try a different Hobie cat storage experiment this season - just pulled her up on shore, to winter there (with a tarp over it) for the next 4-5 months....hell of a lot easier than dropping the mast and pulling her up on her trailer etc....we will see how that goes!

It appears that you've enjoyed that beer. Awesome! PT brews high quality beers. And to lightly echo a portion of your assessment, I too find some Porters, randomly, that have the behavioral qualities of a Stout. Basically a heavy Porter. And then on the flip side, some Porters are more akin to being a Dunkel as they are lighter bodied and are "thin" for lack of a better term flavor-wise. Interesting. :beers::beers:

Hello again BAs. About 2 more days of temps near 50F here and then the bottom starts to drop. So, I can nut around a bit today. Drumming duties tmrw eve at the Drifty. Looks like a buddy is gonna buy a few drum items I have for sale for my neighbor so that's cool. I plowed thru a couple bottles of High Life yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Made my wyfe laugh. Apparently that was my ticket.:sunglasses: 5 remain. Cheers!!
