Not sure if it has been mentioned here but a cheapie, Zywiec Baltic porter should scratch that itch!

Correct! Thought he was looking for those too.

“Looking for solid recommendations for imperial stouts / imperial porters with the following characteristics”

Is a Baltic Porter an Imperial Stout?
    Cuz i consider them that.

    What's the difference?

Oh I meant I thought he was looking for imperial Porters. Which I guess is just any of these neo-Porters which are imperial abv. I definitely think a Baltic Porter classifies as an imperial porter.

Zyiwec porter is the one import Baltic porter which I think is dry. The rest are definitely not. I think the distinction was originally to do with abv, porter vs stout porter with stout porter being the stronger.

All this to say I guess there’s not truly a difference these days since both are imperial. However since it’s a Baltic porter there is a good deal of that vinous quality which isn’t necessarily prevalent in most imperial stouts but arguably is in most Baltic porters.

That thing is beyond sweet and has a low tier chocolate flavor now

Not against the beer, but it is far from bitter and dry

Completely fair point. Should have specified “… — excellent (again) if in a pinch.”

if there is nothing else available it'll rub, not scratch, the itch.

Definitely not a dry or bitter stout in any way, shape, form, flavor, visual etc though (unless all you have as options are IPA)

    YMMV

Chilly out this way this evening with some heavy rain, perfect for you know what. Stopped at a spot known for a wide, deep selection. But after a careful comb of the aisles, nothing but notes of vanilla, oak, bourbon, unmentionable desserts. On the way out it occurred to ask if there wasn’t possibly any Old Rasputin in the house. Score. Thanks North Coast for keeping true.

Grimm — Double Negative imperial stout — a smart alternative to the current sea of sweet, bourbon, vanilla, oak options.

Still, imperial/ high IBU tough to find out there.

Fair play to a hazy NEIPA lover who heard about this thread. Thankful for the Ten Fidy, Oskar Blues recommendation. A beacon!
