Kind of new to craft beer, and was wondering if Double Bastard (and if its recommended) to age? Thanks in advance for replying.

I'm no expert, but given the high ABV, it'll most likely be fine. Some of the hop character may fade which will change the taste, but you won't need to worry about it going bad.

I was going to say the same thing. At 11.2%, it's certainly "OK" to age. However, I think the better question will be the opinions of the people who have actually done so. What does the flavor taste like after 6 months, 12 months, etc.

My suggestion would be to do it and form your own opinion, though.

Got it... thanks for replying, I was wondering because I have a lucky bastard and it gives me an drink by date, so i was wondering if Double Bastard was the same.

I bought a few bottles of the 2009 to try this exact thing. Still have one left, actually. Basically, when it's fresh it's more of a DIPA. As it ages, the hops fade to the background and the malt sweetness becomes more pronounced, taking on more of a Barleywine character. I liked it within the first 6 months and with 2+ years on it, but the 6-18 month range wasn't great.

I certainly hope so, as I currently have 7 consecutive years of Double Bastard in my beer cellar (2006 - 2012). I've been meaning to do a vertical for years, but trying to find the # of people who want to spend a night getting pretty messed up on Double Bastards alone is harder than you'd think (suppose 5 people; that's about 31 oz of high-ABV beer each. And when I get together with my BA-type friends, they like to mix it up and try a bunch of new stuff rather than work through a lengthy vertical of just one beer). As a result, the collection keeps growing - and aging. . . .

The BA Double Bastard was decent but I plan on aging the second bottle for a year or two.

Double bastard is one of my favorite beers to age. Also have an '06-'12 vertical going and have had every vintage except '07 (I think). Ages superbly

I recently "found" an '07 in my cellar when I was moving. I shared it with a few friends and we all agreed, it was superb.
