Far and Away RIP as well

 

Regular Benthic has coffee and coconut but not vanilla.
Vanilla Benthic has vanilla and coconut, but not coffee.
2x4 Benthic has twice the coffee, 4x the coconut but not vanilla (except when it does).

Benthic is a barrel aged stout. Except when it's mixed with a barleywine. Then it has sea salt. But not tamarind or lime - who would ever put that in a barleywine.

Hope that clears it up.

 

Interesting, the description I just linked says it does have coffee. I was preeeeeetty sure that it used to, as in I thought I remembered it when they used to do the release back at Lincoln.

That said, my memory could definitely be wrong and it could just be an assumption I had from back in the day.

What do people think about benthic 2024?

3 people I know tried it on untappd and averaged reviews of 3.75.

one person I know said it is “barely drinkable.”

my expectations thusly set, I put a can out to warm up for a couple hours, and dove in. I had warmed up the palate with a DDH Boss Tweed and a solar choom light (listen fellas, I’m really crashing into the end of the year, and I neither condone nor support this level of excess), and listened to the full Jessica Pratt album in a dark room while I slowly, slowly sipped.

wow, Benthic, what a treat. Yes, the adjuncts are bold, and the coffee is heavy. The mouthfeel is full and rich, without being chewy or desiccating. The coconut rides above the coffee sea, a layer of thick, tropical fog over the forbidding, black waves. This is a decadent treat, an underwater siren beckoning you to unknown depths.

 

I like it but I don't $200 a box like it anymore. I think I still $100 and choose the variants I want like it but at the moment that doesn't appear to be an option.

 

The mouthfeel is too much for me these days. I find it syrupy.

Well, I found a seat with some old friends from the Fischman's days (R.I.P.) so my man-purse wasn't visible. Plus, my phone died immediately after I posted. And...75% of the crowd could charitably called fat guys.

However, I DID meet @Quilentro when he spotted me in the bottle shop on my way out. As expected, he was a delight in person...unexpectedly, he's a touch more handsome than his avatar. Some guys have it all, it seems.

Plus it turns out we have the same (not SUPER common) first name...if you want to know it is, you'll have to meet us "IRL".
