Thanks for the open @dcotom . Not sure if you're in a position to enjoy the beers based on your discussion yesterday, but if you are and have any highlights worth mentioning, please consider our Cellar Review thread, where observations can be as brief as a sentence or two, or much longer, writer's / BA's option. Everyone is welcome.

Pulled 15 bottles (1/5) from the basement cellar to the refrigerator Monday, in part to compare this selection to a real live Kringle (source Racine Bakery, Racine Wisconsin). Doing a side by side, I notice the heavy handed nature of the pecan in the Central Water's selection.

While I share @GreenBayBA and others high praise of 3 Sheeps, and while this selection doesn't reach the pinnacle of Central Waters efforts, I highly recommend a visit to either location (Milwaukee and Amherst), and would say their peak efforts such as Central Gold are not only the pinnacle of Wisconsin BA treatment, but best in show / tied for best in show across the entire Midwest. Hear me now, believe me later.

I agree re: 3 Sheeps. I, too, love it’s Stouts, but Central Water’s Black Gold has been the highest rated beer in Wisconsin for years for a reason - it’s delicious and the best beer in Wisconsin! Cheers Jason!

 

I fell in love with Black Gold my second volunteer year at FOBAB. Poured Three Floyds Chemtrailmix the first year, and VIP entrants sucked it all down the first hour before general session folks had a change at it. Poured Black Gold the second year, and most people passed it over for pastry hyped stouts. If I poured it in say 2012, it would have been gone baby gone like the Chemtrailmix.

BCBS, Deth's Tar, and are few others are top shelf, but for annual releases Black Gold is my 1 and FW Parabola my 1A in terms of consistency and greatness.

This morning’s coffee is Revolution’s VSOJ (2024) BW aged in Bourbon Barrels:



Canned 7/9/24. I purchased a 4/pk at the brewery July ‘24 days later. Poured at 52°. Glassware courtesy of @ChicagoJ . A sweet boozy caramel delight! Thick body/viscous feel and Bourbon forward. Revolution is one of, if not the best, purveyors of barrel aged beers in the Midwest. Rarely “Wisconsin thin” (those who know know). Perhaps my favorite BBA BW all time! I upped my rating on Untappd to a 5 this summer and standing firm.

I’d love to sit around and drink all day, but I’ve got a bottle share set up at 6 this evening in the neighboring town…always lots of fun…and yes @vabeerguy , I will be ubering.

Hoffbrau Hefe Weizen 5.1%. With a lot of IPAs and imperial IPAs available to me over the holidays this beer became my go-to that I reached for the most. I'll be on the lookout for more German beers when I go shopping for New Year's Eve.

 

In the Ardennes/Hautes Fagnes. Just got back from a nice hike. And now time for an IPA at Peak beer. Cheers
