    Question #2. What should the target Final Gravity be?

    With 6.5% ABV, what FG do we want to target? I suggest thinking about residual sweetness, maltiness, body, and mouthfeel, even though there is no (group) grain bill context yet, though there may be one in your head. Here is the formula I used to determine the potential FG/OG pairs.

    ABV = 131.25 x (OG - FG)

    I realize there are other formulae that would give slightly different answers. This is the one I used. But the bottom line is there are a finite number of pairs (at three decimal place rounding) that can result in a 6.5% beer and remain within the style guidelines. These are those.
    This poll will only be open for 48 hours. Based on the first one, almost all the votes happened in that timeframe.

    By the way vikeman, are you able to vote since you're the originator? Curious what your opinions are in these polls

    I went with 1.012 because most of my beers come out that way :rolling_eyes:

    I am able to vote, but I won't. I figure I should remain impartial.

    You could always vote and not post about it--you are part of "the masses", after all

    Not easy to choose with different varieties of IPA out there that are all perfect in my mind, but I went with 1.012 as I imagine this beer will end up voted west coast in style/pale with little body.

    Will this be another weighted average poll? I ask because its hard to pick one depending on the exact style, personally I like something with nice grainy/biscuity backbone (flavor) yet relatively dry so 1012 is what I would shoot for

    I see it as a good argument not to use any other results than the most voted for.

    So do they. :sunglasses:

    I admit that whilst I've got an agenda as to what I think the final product here would be (and probably will be, lol), I must admit that the IPA/IIPA styles have a lot of flexibility, and there are many diverse examples of the styles which I would consider "good."

    However, what I (approximately) expect from this project is basically a pretty clean, low FG (1.012 max), pretty dry, heavily hopped IPA that will most likely wind up with citra, amarillo, and/or simcoe hops. :grimacing:

    Actually, that sounds pretty tasty! :grinning:

    You should vote. Wouldn't be a fair representation of this forum.

    It will probably not help you to vote at the extremes to try to move the needle on the average.
    The first one was not really a weighted average poll. The intent is to go with plurality, unless I look at the distribution and decide that a plurality might not be a fair representation. I only posted the mean and median for the first one as a confirmation that the mode was telling the truth.
