Oh crap that is so true ha. I know there are Steely Dan fans here, which is of course fine, but I have never really been one. Though am told all the time when people find out I like jazz, "have you heard of this band called Steely Dan, they are like jazz." Ugh.

It has more to do with people never ever hearing anything remotely like jazz, but then saying SD is so like jazz ha. I get they have had good players come and go from the band. I mean both Jim Gordon and Steve Gadd have played with them, and are two of my favorite drummers...and I can go on forever but I'll stop there, and just say the band as a whole never did much for me, ha.

Alright bedtime here, here’s to an hour more of the shortest ever WBAYDN.

I was glad to start this thread fairly regularly here just as much as I like my sleep. Handing over the keys to anyone up for it from now on, see you all soon.

I discovered SD through hip-hop, which is a great thing, IMO. Not a huge fan by any means. I'm just so thankful that the art of sampling turned me on to so many forms of music. And that reference, well, I'm sure you got it. Peg (SD)/Eye Know (De La). Eric, my brother!!!

Steely Dan was not a band - it was Donald Fagen and Walter Becker and they brought in other excellent musicians to play on their songs. And to deny their jazz influences is kind of ludicrous, that's all I'll say on the matter.

Yeah that's a stretch but others in rock n roll made it easy to expand into the "Smooth" Jazz genre with bands like Acoustic Alchemy, Special EFX, Dancing Fantasy and the Jazzmasters Paul Hardcastle. Many individual artists from Alex Bunyon to Wayman Tisdale.
Steely Dan is from the '70's when one mentioned Jazz I would think at the time New Orleans style jazz?
    Am an SD fanboy though.

Oh yeah, I get it... that was my route to SD as well. And I'll throw in an SD tune once in a while here in the forum... as some know. Cheers, Hunter! What you got for a beer next? I've got mine lined up... be about 10 minutes.
This Vallejo variant, Sunrise, is fun. Melon, blueberry, pine, dank, all playin' and clownin' around.
