I’ve heard a lot of good things about Manny’s, but I’m not a big lunchmeat or Jewish Deli type, so never been. I do recommend Jim’s Original if you want traditional Maxwell Street food two blocks to the SW, or Pompei across UIC now on Taylor near Ashland. RIP Rosebud.

Joe Kennedy went to BC, owned and operated Finley Dunnes for nearly 20 years (now runs a bar near home in Brookfield. He would air the games via satellite each year, held a chili potluck as well. Miss those days. My college UIC also had a D1 Program, nixed the team shortly after I graduated to dump more money in their losing basketball program. Think college hockey is stronger overall now than when I was in school.

And that’s I have to say about Maxwell Street and little Italy before Daley nuked it to move Chicago Circle Campus from Navy Pier in the late 1960s.

 

I got it for 50 cents at a yard sale. It’s got a well worn down Boston College logo on it. Tough to pour a beer in it and has a dribble factor if you not careful. I don’t use it often but I like it.

The Bean Pot is a huge deal around here every year. A couple of years ago got they started a ladies Bean Pot. I don’t know if it’s like this everywhere but colleges in Ma. have to dedicate the same amount of money to male and female sports programs. BU dumped it’s football program years ago to equal out the allocation

My niece is a student at Northeastern and has gone to the Bean Pot every year.

 

Yes, Title IX decimated men’s teams since there is no equivalent of a 90 women’s team sports like football to balance out the scholarships. UIC never had an official team. North Park and former Western Conference (now known as the Big Ten (sic)) & 1905 National Champion University of Chicago are the only two teams left in our city, both DIII level.

The U of C Maroons were the original Monsters of the Midway, before the Bears stole that title and the university’s logo as well. Speaking of which, Virginia will be buried tomorrow by her husband and others, not by her father as there was no activity by his family’s tomb this afternoon.
