    1) Toppling Goliath Fire, Skulls, & Money (7.8% canned 11/8/24): A NEIPA from Iowa with Citra, Mosaic, Galaxy, and Nelson for flavors of grapefruit and orange citrus flower, vinous white grape, gooseberry with some pine and berry to balance. Juicy, complex, and clean.
    versus
    2) BlackStack KPIs (8.3% no canning date): A NEIPA from Minnesota with HBC 602 Nectaron for flavors of lemon, bright pineapple, grapefruit, white grape, and mango. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

New Zealand hop NEIPA Battle with Toppling Goliath versus BlackStack.
First is Toppling Goliath Fire, Skulls, & Money. Citra, Mosaic, with some New Zealand Nelson to give it a vinous grape and berry flavor. The best-of-the-best from Toppling Goliath.
Next is a new Triple dry-hopped IPA from BlackStack with some Nectaron. Some nice lemon, pineapple, mango base as usual from BlackStack but with a distinct grape and berry flavor from the Nectaron and HBC602. Little bit of a hop burn that will settle down a bit. BlackStack is killing it with nearly every IPA. FS&M will always be my favorite, but as it ages, this fresh BlackStack has monstrous hop flavor. May be the first IPA to ever overtake FS&M in a beer battle. Cheers to a wonderful IPA from BlackStack.
    Winner: BlackStack KPIs

Bommen & Granaten (Bombs & Grenades). Barley wine from De Molen, one of their classic brews. I hope this brewery stays around, in some way or the other.
    Cheers

....well, we should know that nearly ice-cold beer does deaden flavor and aroma, and I'm out in the 'Fortress of Solitude', where the beer was also stored, so that may be a factor in things...I may have another can of it...if so, I'll reevaluate it under better conditions...

Bummer Larry! Plows were the bane of my winter existence growing up in mid-Michigan. We are getting some heavy winds in the NW part of NC today, but not to your extent. Hope all is okay! And thanks for the rib advice from yesterday!
Since i just purchased the Fremont 2024 Cuvee i figure i better get into the 2023 edition courtesy of @muchloveforhops3 one year ago today! Got a nice whiff of the barrel upon opening, mild roasted malts that yields a touch of molasses and licorice. Cinnamon however is the dominant flavor theme. Barrel balances nicely. Nice to try, many thanks Doug!
Da Boss has always been a Casey Kasem fan going back to her youth and so the 70's on 7 on Sirius has been filling our airwaves today. Some great tunes/memories and some really bad tunes in the mix. My favorite from the day, a very nice remake from David Byrne and Co., such a different vibe from that decade.
    Cheers!

Courtyard, beer and book time. It is way to cold out for my pupper, Moe, but I have been out here all morning and early afternoon reading. I have not had a chance in the last couple or weeks to really get into a book, and the last book of one of my favorite fantasy series was just released recently. So, it is taking me a while to get through it.

Anyway, the all time great Orval in the glass. Now only have about 200 pages left in the "Cities of the Weft" trilogy. The last two books specifically are unlike any fantasy out there, except maybe Gormenghast.

BAs, what an amazing beer this is.
Time to dust off and unleash a starless, moonless, and un-lit beauty:
    1 year + old bottle of 2023 August Schell's Cave-Aged Barrel-Aged Black Lager 10% ABV.
Exp date 4/19/24. Yep. That's right.
Höhlengealtert. Pretty deep. ...and my God it tastes divine. Whipped up dark toasted malted milk ball, coconut, a hint of vanilla, med-light bodied, gently sweet dark fruits...& earthy....a cushy feel...:innocent::heavymetal:
    Cheers!!

Thanks Tom!! We have some new bozo plowing this year and he doesn't give a shit about messing up a clean driveway at all - he flies by here and just lets the snow fly. The old regular town plow was pretty courteous and tried to not leave a huge pile of snow. This new guy is just an asshole.

But things are okay otherwise, just a messy, annoying day. It's pouring out now and the rain has nowhere to go so the streets are getting flooded. It's all going to freeze over later and there's no warmup in sight so it will stay that way for the foreseeable future. Cheers!

We got about the same as @LarryV around here: 8+ inches and now sleet and freezing rain on top. Had to clear it all as it's going to get cold and freeze overnight, so its gonna be slick in the morning. Big winds coming up soon.

    Anyway, beer time.
