Adding ballparks and other stadiums to places

With opening day just around the corner I'm looking forward to catching a few games and some good brews. Do we have a BA policy around listing ballparks and other stadiums in places? This could be useful for those looking for alternatives to the usual macros that those places typically offer.

At Minute Maid (wait, they changed it to Daiken Park I guess), there is a Saint Arnold Bar which I would like to add. I'm not sure if adding the entire stadium as a place is the best way to do it. The above Sandlot listing is a good way to do it IMO. I think I have come across airport bar listings as well. Instead of adding the entire airport, stadium or whatever, if there is a unique bar/brewery within that entity, that would be good to add on its own.

No policy that I'm aware of. In the past I think this has been addressed in local regional forums. In the NW forum for example, there's a yearly Spring tradition to furnish information about the beer selecton at T-Mobile Park, and where you can find better craft options in the stadium.

Anyway, I'll run your idea by @Todd to see what he thinks about the idea. I know a lot of members are sports enthusiasts, and I can see where this would be a useful resource to have available.

    Thanks!

I've seen the listings in regional threads and the yearly (?) "What's the price of beer in major stadium"-type articles--not to mention the pair of responses/recs here! I think having something searchable in places could be a big help, in conjunction with the more detailed forum discussions.

A guideline would be helpful in listing where in the stadium there's good beer to be had. I don't think it makes sense to parse out individual kiosks unless they are a separate entity, as in the case of Public House and Oracle in San Francisco, where they're attached to the ballpark.

I don’t see any reason to add stadiums.

People go to ballparks to watch baseball, not because of the beer.

And the beer is typically crappy and overpriced anyways.

The beer will definitely be overpriced (even worse at concerts), but I think a lot of sports enthusiasts associate a day at the park with a couple of cold ones. My father, who very rarely drank, would always get a polish (sausage sandwich) and a couple of cold beers at a (SF) Giants game.

In terms of beer quality, things have changed over the past couple of decades. Sure, once upon a time AALs ruled at the park, and even today that's what a majority of fans order. However, increasingly there's a decent selection of craft options available as well. At least that's the case where I live.

That being said, the selection is typically still fairly limited and often you can only find craft options in certain sections of the park. All the more reason why having some information about where you can find it at the park might be helpful and useful.

Have you been to summer afternoon baseball games before? People go to ballparks in huge numbers to watch baseball and drink beer. It's what a large segment of the crowd does at baseball games.

Hundreds of times. Those people are not showing up because of the beer list.

My uncle played for the Giants and coached for them for 15+ years.

I am not debating that people like to drink beer and watch baseball. I’m just stating that making locations out of stadiums is jumping the shark for tickers. People are going to the game to watch baseball, and they’re going to drink beer. They aren’t deciding to go to the ballpark because of the beer list.

Right, but that's not the idea, is it? They're showing up because a baseball game is fun, a ballpark is a cool-ass outdoor bar with live sports, and they want to drink beer while they're there, among a host of other reasons. They're not showing up because of the beer list, and that's not an argument any thinking person would try to make, but they sure would like to see one while they're there, and they're going to be getting their beer drink on regardlessly.

I go to Fenway a few times a year. I don't go because of the beer, but there's not been a single time in recent years where I've went without checking which beers are available where.

I honestly can’t fathom looking up a beer list before going to the ballpark.

A few hot dogs and some overpriced Miller/Bud/Coors Lite is all I need, and I’ll be happy with it.

Believe it or not, I have season tickets. I take Boeing that often. Even though I don’t live in state.

A lot of those folks just go hang out in the Party Patio (for the Mariners, it's called The Pen), and for a certain segment, they're just paying their $17 dollar cover to go stand in the club and party down. They're not going for the taplist, they're going to try to get laid.

Around the rest of the stadium though, having good beer is expected, just like any other bar/restaurant/venue in the PNW.

Last one from me, but you're missing the point a bit, I think. It's about getting the info to people going to, or who are already in, the ballpark, and wanna know their options. That's like a huge part of Beer advocate in general, I think. If I gotta drink drafts of Bud Heavy, so be it, but if I can get better beer a few sections over, I'm taking it every time, and going by the lines, a lot of people feel the same.

'I don't need it, so why does anyone else?' is usually an unhelpful take on stuff like this

You beat me to the punch, as this is what I was going to say. As I indicated above, this is the sort of question that seems to come up every spring during the start of baseball season. People are just curios what their options are going to be when attending a game.

Bars located at the stadiums are of course allowed, but there's no support for just adding the stadium itself. So, as it stands now we shouldn't be adding them, and I can only imagine the types of reviews it would encourage if we did allow them.

Well, Wrigley Field has been referred to in the past as the world's largest outdoor bar.
