Fair enough. Maybe better phrased...I didn't get much vanilla. Maybe I'm spoiled but it lacked the depth I was expecting from such a highly rated beer. Will I happily buy more, yes. Will I expect more when I try it on draft, yes. It's much like Alaskan Smoked Porter..solid in every way..not spectacular in any.

My experience with vanilla and coffee is the vanilla always has a hard time shining through initially. Coffee tends to fade faster than vanilla, sit on a bottle and try it again in 6mo to a year. I've only had this beer once, with about a year and a half on it, it had some really nice notes but nothing exceptional.

Also to add....if the coffe is too much consider aging the beer in a cooler place than where you'd normally age it...my more recent experiences with both homebrew and popular coffee beers is that colder aging, like in the fridge, fades coffee flavors quicker....unfortunately the vanilla might fade some as well...

I just had a bottle last night that was from Feb '12. Not much coffee but the vanilla was very noticeable. Solid stout either way and I'm happy to have it in TX.

I will make the rounds today and talk to all the beer guys in Fort Worth (Kings, Spec's, CM, and Total) and see what's what. Kings was expecting a similar shipment to Fern's post above.

Looks to be a hoppy New Year. Need to land a sixer of Hopslam and Troegs NN soon

Literally the only one of Fern's beers to land in FW was 120.

I'm growing tired of saying "Halls has it, why don't you?" just as much as area reps hate when my beer guys call them asking the same thing. I bet fern even has non expired ruination

Hate to bust up the Fern love(cuz I love 'em too), but not the only place in FW/Tarrant that got 120's.

Other stores tend to have set delivery days, we get orders everyday at our store.

Sorry I was unclear. Every place I went had 120, none of the other beers.

And all these places had deliveries today...although perhaps not from every distributor.

Yeah, I was in a store last week that got ruination 4 packs delivered. Bottled in October. Ugh.

I totally see it now. Your second paragraph("Halls has it, why don't you?") cancelled out what was said in the first... at least in my head.
