I should have started this thread at the beginning of the year, as there have been a number of noteworthy items thus far in 2025.

    First the good news:

    - BKS will open a second location (with a 1-barrel system) in the Crossroads neighborhood in late spring/early summer. (Congrats to @iwantyourskull for predicting BKS's expansion into a second space over a year before it was announced.)

And on to the less-good news:

    - Dubious Claims (Excelsior Springs) and Willcott (Leavenworth) closed earlier this year.
    - The Double Shift space went up for lease earlier this week. While the brewery closing has not been formally announced, this coupled with the brewing equipment being removed recently likely indicates that the brewery's end is near.

    And finally, just news:

    - Per the note on their current location in Google Maps, Nimble is moving from the Crossroads neighborhood to an as-yet-unannounced location in the Union Hill neighborhood.

I visited Double Shift in January and didn't catch on until the second night that brewing equipment was all gone. Along with the old Red Sash Brewing, it was always my favorite place to close the evening during my travels. I was sole Wednesday customer (#1) from 4:30 until I left after 7. The server was very friendly and tried to explain the situation, though it seemed that details were still on the down low to most. Sounds like the landlord thinks the property is worth more as another use? That parking lot seems always empty and the pay gates were broken. It was sad looking inside the adjacent RSB space to see a huge void. I return in April and I fear that's I've enjoyed my last Double Shift beer. My luggage was full so no room to take some Tessellation back to Seattle. I'm not sure where my go to place will be in the future. Perhaps Border.

That fear turned out to be accurate, as Double Shift's last day open will be St. Patrick's Day. The consolation prize is that there's still a lot of good beer available in/around that neighborhood.

The Double Shift tap list from my January visit. You can see that their flagship Tessellation was sold out.

Double Shift was my first smaller craft beer love in KC. Sad to see them go, but it seems like they changed ownership awhile back...?

Double Shift was bought by the brewery across the alley (Red Sash) a couple years ago.

With Nimble’s location closed as well, that block went from three breweries to zero in under a year.

I never made it to Nimble once. I'm pretty sure I know what building it was in, but the hours always seemed extremely strange to me.

Crossroads is my favorite neighborhood because of the breweries. Sad to see that block lose all those options.

Heading to KC next week. Any good spots for buying singles near crossroads/downtown?

If you’re not looking for hyper-local to-go options and don’t want to venture out of downtown, Oak & Steel will be your best bet. Otherwise, if you want cans from, say, Alma Mader or BKS, you’ll need to go to their taprooms for that.

Heading there in July. Boulevard worth a visit?

Boulevard's Tours & Rec Center is a nice space to visit, but...only a handful of the beers available will be different from what's available in distribution, so it may be somewhat dependent on whatever test beers are on then. FWIW, you can look up what's currently available on Toast.

Pathlight will close the weekend of June 20th (which is their 5th anniversary).

I can name a handful of breweries in the metro I'd hate to see close. Pathlight is the only one on the KS side I'd hate to see go (Discourse is earning my respect more and more.) This one hurts.

Big Rip Brewing (in North Kansas City) last days open are today and tomorrow, as the majority owner/head brewer is moving away.

A new brewery is scheduled to take over the building and equipment and open in the next few weeks.

Just came back from Kansas City. I only got to make it to Torn Label but I really enjoyed everything I had there. The tacos alone are worth the visit!

That's a bummer about Big Rip, but wish Bri the best.

Any news on who is taking over the place and/or what to expect? I could be patient, but figured I'd ask since I'm not really current on much beer news these days.

Not sad to see Torn Label become something else. Still bitter about them not acknowledging the trash BA Long Time Comin variants being bad.
