So, it's not an issue of a bottle "format" but of pricing? Is there something inherently wrong with a 22oz bottle that makes it a stupid format?

If I go into a bottle shop hankering for about two 12 oz bottles worth of NN rather than a whole six, isn't it more cost effective for me to buy one 22oz rather than two 12oz bottles? So, unit pricing depends on what you compare it to and one's perspective of desired quantity. The unit cost of buying a keg of NN is a much better deal than buying a six pack. Therefore a six pack is a stupid format?

I think the point is that the price per ounce for a 22oz is much higher than a 12oz. You could definitely buy 2-12oz for cheaper than the 22oz would cost. You could probably buy 4 of them for the same price.

Well, if that's the case that is crazy. I wouldn't get incensed about it though, just buy a six instead.

Obviously. Which is why I so graciously provide it. :-)

Fortunately, and as you correctly pointed out, it IS infinite.

Exactly, and I think most people do just that.

However, I think the point trying to be made... given that's it's so obviously a poor deal for the customer, and given the apparent added expense in producing them, why does Troegs continue to make them?

(though granted, apparently when paired with a pint glass, they do make lovely gift packages for trading buddies)

As I've mentioned in numerous other threads talking about pricing, people continue to buy them. Everyone screams about price of this and that, but line up to go buy the stuff. Why wouldn't breweries continue doing it when they are profiting more from it.

I found an old "bomber price" thread and it does seem by some accounts that the unit prices are way out of whack so I recant any snideness in my previous comments. With that said maybe if 22oz isn't as popular and as a result they don't make as many, it may cost them more to package. In that thread, some folks were finding six packs for nearly the same price as a single 22oz. Can't think of any other reason why brewers would charge such a price. For the record I'll go find NN on tap rather than stew over bottles and sixes.

    Good customer service?

I completely agree with you, but hell, given the popularity of the beer they could sell it in a lady's slipper and I'm sure it would still fly out the door. So I think that's a fairly weak arguement to make on behalf of keeping the format.

My point is that no matter what format they go with, the beer is going to sell like hot cakes. Assuming that's a given, why not bottle it just in 6 packs, which would be the most advantageous format from a "best bang for the buck" standpoint?

That being said, you're right. If they have no problem selling every last drop with current system, I guess why change it?

I don't disagree with you at all. And since people will buy it no matter what, what wouldn't they scrap the 6pks and only sell bombers? It will still fly off of the shelves - and at a presumably higher profit too.

Ha! Exactly. (See my earlier post)

I have to think it would ultimately be more profitable for Troegs to just go with the one format. If the bomber format is more profitable, then it would make sense for them to stay with that.

Really, it's their continued use of the dual format system that I find puzzling and counter productive. If they only sold bombers, there would be no price discrepency, and so reason for anyone to complain.

Don't bombers allow greater access to store shelves? Six packs take up a great space on the shelf. By having both they can get shelf space into some stores where they might not be able to with a six pack. I would guess that is why they have multiple formats. There may be price discrepancies in terms of per oz. of beer but there are also other factors that go in to pricing the beer in the different size format like packaging, shipping, $ for shelf space, etc.

Bottom line, the breweries don't really care if a few people on BA complain that they prefer six packs. They're trying to sell their beer. They are run by some pretty smart people who know what they're doing.

Can't wait for this release. One of the few beers I actually buy a case of each year. Would love to be drinking these during the Super Bowl...

Yeah it wasn't that easy to come by last year in bottles or draft. Although my brother did manage to snag 2 cases in February and March.

You may not need to go all the way to Pittsburgh. Capelli's in Washingto PA is about an hour north of you and carries a lot of Troegs last time I stopeed by there.
