2023? Nice. It hasn't been distributed out here for ages, so I just assumed it hadn't been bottled for a while.

Bombs over Barley aged in 15yr Dickel Bourbon barrels for 14 months. From Barreled Souls in Maine. Barleywine that comes in at 14.7% ABV.

This is fantastic. Vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, brown sugar, Werther's candy, strawberry jam, bread, and extremely malty. This is just a perfectly balanced beer with a great contribution from the barrels. This is how a barrel-aged barleywine should be made. Others should take notice.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a toffee/fruity/bourbon aftertaste. Super smooth.

I got this one some time ago from the ever generous @Beersnake My original plan was to wait for the 25-year mark to open it, but 22 is my favorite number so here we are.

I poured with extreme care and I'm glad I did, there are a lot of chunks at the bottom of the bottle. Damn Tim this is profoundly good, the flavors are heavy, ponderous, and deep. There is a kind of earthy char blanketing notes of intense raisin, leathery tobacco, tawny port, and molasses. I get faint honey and toffee as well. What a glorious beer, thank you sooo much Tim for the experience.

YES!! Glad you enjoyed this one, Dan! These older beers sure do carry some chunks in the bottom :astonished:. Glad you avoided those. Cheers!

I ate them at the end :scream:and they actually weren't bad, though I'm glad the texture didn't mar the experience in the glass

Some oranges candies are starting to emerge, still plenty of bitter citrus peel though. Tasting great right now.

Tending to the pulled ham on the smoker tonight. The wind is picking up and it smells like rain and mouthwatering meat. Beautiful night.

La Maison du Bang! from Breakside. Barleywine aged for 27 months in bourbon, apple brandy, and Nocino barrels. 13.6% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp but allowed to warm for a while. Pours pitch black with minimal head. The nose is full of toffee, bourbon brandy, walnuts, and slight black licorice.

The taste is absolutely crazy. Brown sugar, toffee, brandy, bourbon, walnuts, slight smoke, and a hoppy bitterness that mostly comes through in the aftertaste. A cherry note comes through as well. Really delicious and quite different from other BA barleywines, likely owing to the different barrels used.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is brandy, hops, and a bit of booze. Great barleywine overall.

Not my favorite BW. Says English-style but drinks very American to my tastebuds. Maybe time will help the hops even out a bit or even fade. Cheers!!

2006 Doggie Claws. Still tasting good, but not as good as some of the more recent vintages. Past its prime I think.

I have eight bottles. My birthday beer while it lasts! I shared the last two years with my son whose birthday is only two days away from mine.

This is quite pleasingly dry overall. I get lots of dried, dark fruits and abundant, warming booze that is at once grape-y and brown. There hints of sweetness from charred brown sugar and very low sugar orange marmalade. Overall this is vaguely tea or potpourri like. The only thing marring this is an astringent woodiness at the finish that comes on too strong. Overall a fine beer, thanks Ryan!

I guess let’s keep the @snaotheus train going here as both the beer and glass are from him. This was excellent. Listed as American barleywine but drinks like an English-style barleywine to me. Either way, thanks and cheers, @snaotheus !!
