    ...enjoying a cool and rainy mid-afternoon in 'The Fortress of Solitude'...Oscar (aka 'Thundering Rodent') duked it out with his second raccoon in one week at 4 AM this morning...the little fucker is tough and didn't even suffer any damage, but he'll be on a leash the next time he goes out back to do his business in the backyard...

    ...the song and album that made me a Mountain / Leslie West fan back in the very early 70s...never saw the band live but did catch Leslie West at a large club in Frankfurt, West Germany in the late 80s or very early 90s..

    1) Lupulin Dortmunder (5.5%): A European Export beer from Minnesota with flavors of earthy and grassy Noble hops, salty bread yeast, with a smooth bread dough flavor.
    versus
    2) BlackStack Late to The Party (6.0%): A Festbier from Minnesota with flavors of smooth bread, honey, and light floral notes, smooth and mildly sweet. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

    Lupulin vs. BlackStack lager battle. First is Lupulin, a dortmunder lager. Excellent and smooth, earthy Munich malt. Next is BlackStack Late To The Party. Similar, but more toasted and earthy sweetness. More complex flavors here. I like the drinkability of the Dortmunder better, but the festbier flavors are hard to beat.
    Winner: BlackStack Late To The Party

    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 4

    Pours a nice mahogany-brown color, ruby red and dark in the glass, clear; dense, creamy head, khaki colored and very long-lasting. An inviting smell; red pitted fruit sweetness with a nearly roasted grain backbone; seems somewhat smokey. Low-key yet complex taste; delicate roasted malt underpinning with an equally sly smokey / ash-like quality; very mild mocha sensation; a somewhat bold yet balanced grain char and hop bitterness. Nice, rounded mouthfeel; a tad weak and watery yet not flat.

    Overall, I would love to have this beer as a regular rotation in my beer fridges / closets / cellar (okay, crawlspace). Flavorful, low-ABV beers are always welcome in my domicile.
