From PBS: George Wendt, actor whose name everyone knew on ‘Cheers,’ dies at 76 And here's every single time that Norm Peterson walked into Cheers...
32 years ago today the last episode of "CHEERS" aired on TV. I'm 64, I guess I've been waiting half my life for another TV role model to look up to and nothing. It's seems like we have 5000 channels (or whatever you want to call them) now and there's nothing even remotely close to that. How sad, I think I'll have another beer (in a mug), and, this one is for Norm.
One of my favorite shows growing up. Starting watching it again a couple of months ago. Such a great cast and a wonderful show. RIP Norm!
One of my favorites from Norm, "It's a dog eat dog world out there and I'm wearing milk bone underwear". Thanks for the laughs, RIP Norm.
So he was really into craft beer. RIP, Norm. I'll buy you a beer when I arrive where you certainly are.
My favorite Norm entrance line: "What's going down, Normie?" "My butt cheeks on that bar stool." Cheers to Cheers!
Growing up, my parents didn't let us night time shows. In 1982, I went off to college. After studying in the library one night, a friend asked if I wanted to go watch a show called Cheers. Loved it, but didn't get to watch it too much for the remainder of college as I was spending too much time studying. 8 years later, I met my wife and we watched re-runs and every episode for the last 4 season. Last night, I watched the first two episodes. Memories. Thanks Norm! I will be having a beer tonight in your memory.
I heard about his passing on AM radio yesterday afternoon. They played that clip! Cheers to George Wendt!
...from a 2009 book he co-wrote called "Drinking With George: A Barstool Professional’s Guide to Beer."
I moved to Los Angeles in December 1993. I ran into him at the Trader Joes in Studio City circa 1994. Not long after the Northridge earthquake. He was buying two six packs of beer. He was widely recognized but people in the store pretty much left him alone Being new to LA, only 26, and a little star struck I asked the checker does he come here alot? The look I got was perfect...your not from here are you? He was just a regular dude to the people that worked that store. It is not cool to bother celebs you recognize in public when they are just trying to live thier lives.
May 20, 1993 was the last episode of Cheers and just days before I graduated college and remember clearly watching that final episode. Cheers was a Thursday night staple “must watch” amongst my friend group in college. We pre-gamed to Cheers before going out to our favorite bar on Thursday nights. Was a great time growing up.
Thing about that episode that I remember is that there was a live interview/Q&A with the cast after the broadcast. And that a LOT of the cast was clearly not sober.
