I'll check it out but my experience with that store is it is probably over a year old inventory. That's why I don't buy there much even though it's only a few miles from my office at work. Thanks Jack!

It would indeed be prudent to check the dates (as with all beers). Having stated that it has been my personal experience that Saisons tend to hold up very well over time. I annually homebrew a batch of Saison and at one year of age those beers are still enjoyable.

Have you ever considered homebrewing a Saison? Maybe this article will be helpful to you:

    Cheers!

Ah, maybe someday I'll give homebrewing a shot.

A couple years ago I found some Classic Saison in 750ml bottles. Enjoyed and posted it to my IG. BBF saw it and said it may have been from 2016-18. I was shocked. You're right, the canned a year old should be fine.

From last night. Uprooted from Side Project. Saison (recipe is slightly bigger Biere du Pays recipe) aged in Missouri Oak and then transferred to smaller format oak barrels to preferment on ginger and meadowfoam honey. Damn good. Loved the ginger aromas and flavors. Cheers!!

I think the best beers Side Project makes are their Saisons. Possible unpopular opinion, but for me it's not even close. I should note that just a year ago I had a different opinion (stouts over everthing. I now find their stouts syrup-y & too heavy).

If the sourness is dialed back, then yes I agree. I also typically like the non-fruited and especially the dry-hopped saisons they make. I feel like sometimes the simpler the better for them. Grisette (including the dry-hopper), Biere du Pays (including the gin BA versions), La Saisonnier (angain, including the dry-hopped), etc. Cheers!!

I meant non-fruited saisons only! Forgot to type that.

Finally able to try this bad boy.

It's exactly what you would expect from Hill Farmstead. The hoppy beers are all popular of course (and for good reason) but their real game has always been saisons IMO.

The first thing I notice is the mouthfeel. It's just...perfect. Very clean and dry. Extremely refreshing. Great carbonation yet somehow feels creamy and smooth. Absurdly drinkable.

As for the flavors, it's definitely worth letting the beer warm in the glass to discover everything it has to offer. Peaches, pears, apricots, even some lychee. Blends well with the white wine and oak. Tart, but not acidic. Has a nice finish of wildflower honey.

Absolutely adore this beer (despite the price). Saisons from Hill and Suarez will forever tickle my fancy.

Finally got a chance to try the Off Color Apex Predator I bought last weekend. Didn't disappoint either. This was an almost 12 month old four pack too.

    4.12/5 rDev +2.5%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25
Appearance: Slightly hazy, straw gold. Fluffy white head with excellent retention. Fast rising bubbles.

Aroma: Light fruity esters of apples and pears. Very faint funk note - hardly noticeable.

Flavor & Aftertaste: Floral and herbal. Low sweetness. Moderate to low bitterness. Low tartness.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied. Drying. Medium carbonation. Medium length finish.

Overall: Very nice Saison. Crisp and dry start to finish. Fruity esters and hops with a floral and herbal note. Virtually no funk to it, just a hint but not enough to detract from the overall beer. It has an underlying tartness that you don't notice at first, the bitterness kind of papers over it. Well crafted.

The last of my Off Color Brewing Apex Predator Saison. Pilsner malt, flaked Wheat, Honey malt, Crystal and Sterling hops. The more I drank this the more I like it. Would love to see it be more of a fixure in Atlanta area package stores. Thanks to Georgia BA @ZlaVydra for turning me on to this one. Excellent!

This one is well over a year old and still good. Amazing. IV Saison by Brasserie de Jandrain-Jandrenouile. The cool thing is apparently no one who buys at the local package store I found it knew anything about it because I was able to buy most of the stock over several months.

Didn't expect to re-up my Suarez supply before replenishing my Fantome bunker - enjoying this dry hopped "country pale ale" from the former on this drizzly evening - cheers!

Holy cow, i had to go to page 6 of The Bar to find the Saison thread.

Enjoying the last of Classic Saison from Blackberry Farm in Maryville, TN. I suspect this was packaged in 2024, but it has held up nicely.
    Cheers!
