I had it when they first brewed it and I thought it was pretty good. I'm not exactly a wit expert, though.

I haven't had this offering from Tree House, but I measure all Witbiers by the gold standard....Allagash White.

I've definitely had a good amount of that. I would say it was more "refreshing". If I was at the beach, I would drink 2 or 3 of the Surfcasters over the Allagash

I feel like if you're going to Tree House, get what they do best. I know, I know. We aren't suppose to say anything even .01% negative for fear of like Nate doxxing us and cutting off our TH stash forever.

That said, why would I get a Witbier at TH when I can get White (the gold standard)? Why would I get a Czech pils when there are multiple New England breweries making them at a much finer quality? Why would I get a Tree House Irish stout when Guinness exists? Surely there's a hefeweizen, pilsner, or light lager that's done by someone else that is cheaper and better.

If I'm going to Tree House (I like their Pale Ales the best), I'm sticking to what they do best. I wouldn't go to Ruth's Chris for the fried clams.

The problem is that a lot of people who drink IPAs but don't really know beer think Tree House is the best and that Tree House is the best at beer so anything they make is the standard. We also have gotten to a point where beer culture is less about trying new things than it was before. If you or I were like you like trail, try this from a brewery that specializes in this style, most people would scoff at it. It's just the way it is.

I agree with you on some of their beers, but their lager program is fantastic. Great pilsners, etc... the oak aged ones specifically.

It has been available by the slice for about a month give or take. Limited to Roni and Cheese and 4 slices per order. I believe full pies are still available to order. I think they are dedicating an oven to slice pies to pressure off of the full pie demand.

I feel like a lot of people look it as, if you're at the great steakhouse, you may as well get some seafood appetizers and dessert while you are there. Of course people don't go there for the shrimp cocktail or oysters or whatever, but they sure do end up ordering and enjoying quite a bit of it.

Yeah, it’s been a long time since the TH lager program was way behind others. There is definitely room for stuff like Free to Roam even in a world w Notch not far away.

Kind of amazed to see Julian Lage is playing TH Deerfield in October. Would love to see that.

He is one of the most amazing guitar players I’ve ever seen live. The gigs at Treehouse are Julian solo, which I'm sure will be great. I saw him with his band, which was unbelievable. I can’t make either of the Treehouse shows, but that same week he is playing the Sanders Theatre in Cambridge, a Saturday night show. That I am going to!

I’d say Treehouse does make some of the best IPA’s on the planet. There are very few I would compare to. Given they can do it at very large scale like almost no one else

Nate is by far the most open and transparent brewery owner/brewer about operations, ideas, life, etc(not including finances in that) I’ve ever seen. John K makes some good content too. But it’s static and short form.

They make the best video content available online. There is no debate here. If anything I think him and Michael are revolutionizing marketing. And in real time. Realistically, it’s
    Michale who gets the credit.

Now for other styles. They certainly have some of the best. But I can also swap out X brewery for them for x style. I can say I’d much rather grab some Lukr pours at Notch over x beer at TH. So gotta give credit where other credit is due.

As far as New England goes, there truly is nothing like some of the TH IPAs. Especially in mouthfeel. Some are close, but not quite the same level.

However, I have had some bad beers from TH. There is no denying that. They aren’t perfect. They aren’t the best all around. I can’t say that Hill Farmstead’s barrel program isn’t as good as treehouse. That would just be silly. I can’t say of any clear IPAs treehouse makes, I wouldn’t want Tributary IPA over it.

I still think OG Headroom was one of the greatest liquids I’ve ever consumed.

I’ve had 10297338 maple beers at TH. None of them touch Morning Delight. Not sure even Good Morning would these days.

    Happy Saturday all!

Agree 100% about this. Especially the Ruth’s Chris part ha! I have a funny(I think?) story about going to RC for dinner with my cousins family years back and surfing the next day with said cousin. But I’ll spare the internet that tale ha. One of the best steaks I had ever had up to that point. Need to go back someday soon.

All things aside. Every time I see your posts I often wonder if that is actually you in the avatar or if it’s an actress or pop culture reference and I’m just too dumb or old to know.

I think it depends on how often you go to Tree House. If you go often you probably will drink multiple styles from them.

I only go every once in awhile, so if I’m only getting two beers that day, at least one will be an IPA. Very few can compare to their IPAs.

I obviously go to Notch all the time, so if there’s a new IPA on, I’ll give it a whirl. But if I only went a few times per year, there’s no way I’m not getting their lagers and only their lagers.

I kinda view the TH lager program like their coffee bean one:

-80% of the time you’re going to get something good to very good
-the variety is commendable (I really love that TH has attempted 8 million traditional styles even if not all are HoF examples)
-True miss rate is really low
-15-20% of the time you get something as truly excellent as Notch or Gracenote

That might sound like damning w faint praise, but I actually think what they’ve done w styles they had barely attempted before Covid is super impressive.
