Bruno from Machine House. Barrel aged still barleywine ale brewed with Marris Otter and Golden Promise malts, age in Westland whiskey barrels for 12 months. Bottle conditioned for very light carbonation. 13% ABV. This is really fantastic. As with Don and Dystopias, the flavors are super intense. Loads of toffee and dark fruit. Still barleywines are simply fantastic.

Did they release that again this year or is that a 2024 can? It was very good last year.

Unfortunately, this is the April 2024 version. They really should have an annual release. I suspect @Beersnake and @Resistance88 would ensure strong sales in SoCal to justify this!

Big Bang - Russel's Reserve Bourbon from Barreled Souls. American barleywine aged for 13 months in the barrel. 13.6% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp, but allowed to sit in the glass for 10 minutes before tasting. Pours a very dark brown with about an inch of tan head. The nose is bursting with toffee and bourbon. Some vanilla, figs, and brown sugar come through as well. VERY nice.

The taste is excellent. The hops are evident here. Mild bitterness, toffee, vanilla, huge bourbon notes, figs, apricots, honey, biscuits, ginger snaps, and cinnamon. Lovely.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a nice graham cracker and bourbon aftertaste. Excellent barleywine.

I am currently enjoying the first of four "Family Reunion" collaboration brews i picked up in Tampa nearly 1.5 years ago. This one is with Angry Chair, an English Barleywine aged in Cognac, Port, and Rye barrels. Needless to say, this is a dark fruit bomb with notes of toffee, vanilla, and a touch of wood. Well done, rated 4.22.
    Cheers!

Tom, that sounds fantastic. You know how to pick the barleywines. The blend of three different barrel types is very interesting. This gets me to thinking, it seems Port barrels would be perfect for most barleywines. I need to keep a look out for something aged in just Port barrels. Excellent!

Olde Hickory out of Hickory, NC has done several Barleywines in Port, some very good, and some just too over the top. Appalachian Vintner in Asheville has some space dedicated to Olde Hickory BA brews for a cause the owners have, and you can likely find some whenever in town.
    Cheers!

Crystale Evolution - a collab between Barreled Souls and Horus. Aged in Willett bourbon barrels for 13 months. 14.5% ABV. It's very in line with an English barleywine. I mean, what is a crystale?

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown with limited head. The nose is full of bourbon and caramel. Figs, raisins, and loads of malts.

The taste follows the nose. Loads of caramel and bourbon. Vanilla, figs, plums, slight leather, and some brown sugar. Very nice. Definitely not too sweet. Reminds me of a big Revolution barleywine. Boozy.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a big boozy aftertaste.

I was smart for once and bought a case when it came out. I have about 10 cans left. When I get crazy, I have a Double Bastard followed by a Bigfoot. Then, I switch the order the next time I pair them. Living on the edge...

Some folks have claimed this beer is no longer what it once was. Either my memory for beers I first tasted more than a decade ago is no good (and I’ve never claimed that it was) or I just don’t care—or maybe those people are wrong. But after a couple of sips I think this is still a great English barleywine. Cheers!
