I was waiting to see if someone else wanted to start this thread, but it doesn't look like it. So, welcome to the long weekend version of New Beer Weekend! I'm guessing a lot of American members will be busting out something special for the 4th of July. If it's new to you, share a photo and your thoughts here! I don't necessarily save new beers for holidays, but I do often pick out something special in advance to have.

I'm trying Sleeping Forever from The Veil. Anniversary imperial stout blended with bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout. 12% ABV. 2025 version.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours motor oil black with quickly dissipating brown head. The nose is mocha, dark chocolate, dark roasted malts, a bit of wood, slight soy sauce, and a bit of tobacco.

The taste is quite nice. Roasty is my first thought. Lots of dark roasted malts, charred wood, slight dark fruit, French roast coffee grounds, a hint of maple, a hint of vanilla, and a maybe a hint of bourbon. I think the charred wood and tobacco notes really dominate for me. There is some molasses that comes through over time. Very good.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and the aftertaste is again the bitter dark malts and a bit of dark fruit. Good, but probably wouldn't buy again.

Thanks for opening the thread @Beersnake ! I also gave folks an hour to start, and just finished my review and refreshed to see your thread.

I have for Enegren offerings lined up for my home beers. This is my first opportunity at formal reviews for this brewery, as I believe I’ve only had a few oz samples at Vegas festivals in the past. Starting off with a Rasenmaher-Bier, which translates to Lawnmower Bier in English. It’s only a matter of time before it’s added to competitive judging and BA .

7/3/25 - (Can - DA Home) (Las Vegas, Nevada) Can Notes:
$3.24 with tax single can purchase at 8570 W. Sahara Speedee Mart refrigerated, refrigerated here until opening tonight. 16 oz, no can date. 4.2% ABV, 35 IBU Crystal Wheat Lager. Brewed and canned by Engren Brewing Company, Moorpark, California.

We brewed this refreshing wheat based lager to honor and accompany one on the most glorious of all household chores; mowing the lawn. Hopped with a blend of Mandarina Bavaria and Tettnanger hops for earthy and fruity flavors and filtered clear for crispness, this beer may even have you pulling some weeds too.

Appearance: Poured close to half the can into a Pilsner glass. This yielded a clear straw golden base and generous creamy bright white head which leaves a 1/2 inch thick creamy pile above the base. 4.25

    Aroma:
Nice salt and pepper cracker aroma, fresh grassy smell appropriate for this selection. Mike in strength, higher in enjoyment. 3.75

    Taste:
Flavor a stronger replication of the aroma, fresh pepper salt cracker backed by grass and floral hints. Nice and easy. 3.75

    Mouthfeel:
Gentle sustained flowing carbonation, drinks at or lower than the light ABV. Balanced, very light drinking, cracker start to finish. 3.5

    Overall:
This is like a transitory beer for macro drinkers. Light and easy, perhaps to light in the flavor and depth, but I am enjoying. Surprised there weren’t any detected wheat notes. 3.5

Saved the more traditional styled Enegren beers for later. Will pull one out later tonight if the White Sox create a reason to celebrate.

Nice review! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the other Enegren that you have. I might grab a couple of cans of God Bless America tomorrow at my local Trader Joe's. Sounds like a really good pilsner from them.

Cheers to @Beersnake for starting us. Wasn't sure if this was kicking off today or tomorrow, but the brain is fried after work & some pub trivia. If did the opener y'all would've thought a 5-year-old was online...

Stonecloud Brewing Co. ( OKC ) Bruce IPA, 6.5% ABV; 3.75 overall

Pours a super hazed gold with 2 fingers of tight eggshell colored head. Great head retention & lacing

S: Faint citrus notes, peach notes once warmed up

T: Oranges, passion fruit, white grapes, some grainy notes up front. Pomelo, lime, passion fruit, a little pineapple & white grape once this beer is warmed up. Finishes with some sweet orange, a little dryness & passion fruit

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation, decent balance

Easy to drink, but had higher hopes for this, fairly juicy, but doesn't pop

    Ommegang oak aged watermelon kolsch
....an odd but appealing ruby/amber/dark orange appearance
....medium bodied with medium light carbonation which added up to a nice feel
...aroma is fresh watermelon fruit and skin. Theres some mild grain, cereal with the oak showing up but far from overwhelming.
...taste is definitely watermelon upfront with some mild grain and cereal. Oak is there but similar to aroma it shows upmildly
...overall a really nice well done beer[IMG]

Hope you don't hurt a fellow, closer to The Veil BA's feelings with a non-repeat purchase review, but my curiosity is much less qualitative - were you actually able to buy that? Locally? or via an online distributor?

I had to check the standings... and though I think they might've already surpassed last year's win total, a ChiSox win seems a hard criteria to base any life decisions on

Gotahold Brewing's Mysterious Belgian Style Tripel Ale, 9.0% ABV; 4.09 overall

Pours an effervescent & chill-hazed gold with a pinky of beige head. Average head retention & a little better lacing; stays effervescent throughout the pour

S: Green bananas & juicy fruit, a little pineapple & white pepper. Fades a touch once warm

T: Follows the nose, plenty of grassy & wet hay notes. & oaky notes up front. Plenty of green banana, some sweet pineapple & bready notes, grassiness plus dryness once this beer warms up. Finishes grassy, a little dry with oaky notes, & pineapple cake

MF: Medium body, delicate carbonation, nice balance

A spot-on take on the style, the ABV, dryness & complexity make this a sipper

I agree, thought it was really well done. Definitely was a blast of watermelon but it came off fresh not fake or candy like.
If you can't find it let me know as I think its well stocked here. Have a good holiday weekend

Ok, given some recent discussion on this site (and within this thread, perhaps), I decided to test something out for my own personal satisfaction. I am having a new beer at the end of a work day I started fairly early, my time. I have had a couple glasses of beer and couple drams of whiskey. Yet I am going to review a new to me beer, and then later this long weekend try to have it as my first beer and see what differences I note, and try to discern if they might be specific to the "freshness of palate" or not.

So the beer is from a beloved brewery, one where I liked everything I had when I visited a few years ago. Granted, most were IPAs, but apparently Lawson's Finest Liquids produces a nitro version of an Irish stout in cans that they deliver to my area.

I actually forgot for a half second that this was a nitro, and when I remembered I turned it upright, and the head barely crested the pint glass you see above despite threatening an overflow. I didn't note much tan foam beneath the surface as one might recognize from a Guinness (or even a Guiness 0 that I have had at home more recently).

Dense tan foam still sits atop this as I sniff out a generic roasty chocolate malt scent. It's in line with expectations but a bit underwhelming tonight. For my first sip, a nice roasty malt note clicks with my palate. It seems in between the smoother Guinness one is wont to compare to and the more aggressive roasted bitterness I get in many smaller craft brews.

Next sip brings the ever so slight hint of a sasparilla-like root spiciness. Beyond that, it falls a bit into a bit more rich version of Guinness. The feel could be debated as better for being more rich or worse for the same reason. I would throw in a bit of fizziness as a detraction for a nitro pour, but it's not completely unwelcome to may palate.

I am more into lighter, malty beers these days, and the roast comes nicely to this beer without an overpowering or even aggressive hop component, so I am pretty pleased. I sort of expected to be, but we still have the "fresh palate" taste to compare to.

    Cheers!

Happy NBW all. This is from a little earlier today. Here’s the latest in Fremont’s Brew X000 series, in commemoration of their 8,000th batch—excellent as expected. Review below. Cheers!

22oz bottle into a tulip. Pours a murky brownish mahogany with a silky khaki head.

Aroma is fruity and complex with dried, bourbon-soaked dates and figs, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, and vanilla. Classic English barleywine qualities.

Taste is equally complex with many of the same characteristics.

What gets me most here is the mouthfeel. It’s smooth and slick with a nice boozy warming finish. There’s nothing harsh about this 13% beer and it goes down super easy.

Overall another home run in the Brew X000 lineup, one of my favorite series of Fremont beers. Stellar stuff.

I always find wheat to soften, or lightens, mouthfeel a bit when I can't taste it, almost like it takes the bite out of a beer sometimes. Did you perceive any affects to the mouthfeel on this one?

PS...I'm looking forward to that red, white, and blue Enegren this weekend :beers: and remember out AAL tasting last year :sunglasses:

Gotta get out to find a new beer later this weekend sometime, cheers everyone!

    Two things...

First happy to see you throwing a review in here this weekend...Second I noted the same thing when I tried this and went for your latter comment, to me it detracts from this beer and the style. I only purchased the one time and didn't come back to it since that one purchase a few years ago. Gimme Murphy's or Guiness, or Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout, yea I know, different styles, but it serves the same purpose to me :beers:

Tmavý Ležák 12º from Godspeed Brewery

Poured a 355ml can into a pint glass. A one finger brown head on black. The head diminishes to a thin layer.

Coffee in the nose. Lightly burnt toast. Coffee and toast again in the taste. Some other interesting flavours that I can't place.

Medium body and carbonation. A smooth and well balanced Dark Lager. True to the style and well worth a try.

This Fox Farm was gifted by a professional BA beer slinger on 4/15, my first encounter was on Memorial Day-and I saved this can for Fourth of July Weekend. Pours light yellow with a creamy froth that reduces to sticky laces on the glass.
This is a creamy light lemony concoction with floral, lemon grass aroma. Taste is a light lager with lemony zest. The lemon delight has flattened a bit in the last 2 months but this is a delightful summer refresher. Feel is light, refreshing, definitely a summer beer.
My luck I’m sitting on the deck (68’) and wearing a sweat shirt. Overall it’s a 4 for what it is: hop-forward American blond, which is my favorite type of American!
