I am going to be in Rhodes this September for 8 days and then on to Barcelona for another week. Rhodes has very few Beerfly reviews, so any suggestions are much appreciated (Can be beer related, good place to eat, must see sights, etc.). Barcelona has a lot of entries but almost 1/2 seem to be out of business or have a non-functioning website. So any recent recommendations would be be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I've been to both Rhodos and Barcelona, but some years ago. Barcelona was a beery trip, but as you say, some places are now out of business, and some new ones have opened. However, you should have no problem finding good beer places, but you need to venture out of the main tourist drag. Rhodos is not a particularly beery destination, you take what you can find. Nice people and (mostly) fine weather though. If you hire a car and drive around the island, there are plenty of places selling local wine for takeaway, but they take cash (euros) only.
I was in Barcelona in late 2023 and my favorite beer spot was Garage Beer Co. A solid brewery, and it looks like they're still in business!
Barcelona has a good deal of fine options for beer. As has been mentioned, Garage is still going and offering excellent beer, though it does lean rather heavy IPA. They have a location in Eixample as well as out by the beach in the Poblenou. Both are great spots, the one in Eixample is larger and gets a good crowd. The best beer bar in town is Biercab is also in the Eixample and about 45 seconds from Garage. It has some very good food as well. Black Lab has two locations now as well, one also in Eixample and another by Barceloneta. I've only been to the Barceloneta spot and it works well, good beer and "American" style food. A few spots that are a bit lesser-visited and smaller are Brew Pub Le Sec (nanobrewery that will have one or two beers on tap from other Spanish breweries as well, enjoy the pun names), Lambicus (the name will betray its focus), Cerveseria La Més Petita (same), and Kælderkold Craft Beer Bar while not that "less-visited" is conveniently located off Las Ramblas and can have a surprisingly good selection of beer and beer-based cocktails. There are other spots, but that will get you started. Be sure to eat well, pass by Quimet Quimet for a tourist-loaded yet still authentic experience (be prepared to wait outside, also closed weekends), Cera 23 for a more modern take on Catalan food, Raco d'en Cesc for a very not-modern take on Catalan food (also closed weekends now but perhaps one of my favorite restaurants in the world, has a decent beer selection but go for the tasting menu and informal wine accompaniment), and La Pubila. Enjoy!
