Hey all - another tournament this weekend - Staying in Carle Place with games in Levittown ... anything new worth adding since last year?
I recently went to Somerset Brewing in West Hempstead, which is 10 mins or so from Carle Place on a good day. I was pleasantly surprised with their beers, and I think they now have cans to go. Small place, so go early (if you can).
The better question is if anything good is still around. Sort of gone. Place seems to have been sold and radically transformed into a spot I no longer care to visit. Sort of gone. They closed down their separate beer store and are transforming it into an extension of their wine store. I popped in there not too long ago. The place is a far cry from what it used to be. To be fair, I stopped shopping there a long time ago and didn't spend much time there during that recent visit - so my quick impression could be way off. It might be worth a revisit on your end. Apologies for being a downer, but it's hard to feel good about this stuff. If you want more Schilling cans and the like, you can try Wantagh's Beer & Co when you're in Levittown - a small boutique type of store. I've only been there once though. Expensive, but they'll probably have brands you're interested in. The one time I was there, I noticed they had Tree House but it was only inside the walk-in cooler. A different store option near Levittown is Farmingdale Beverage. Of the old-school Long Island warehouse-ish stores, this one still stands. On the bar front, Black Sheep Ale House currently has a couple of Hill Farmstead kegs according to beer menus - if that appeals to you.
This trip we ended up with time for Noble Savage on Friday before getting to a game. We were the only people there. Enjoyed two half pours and played some darts (first real darts for my son). I got two four packs to go. Beer was good but $27 a four pack. Universal Beverage was less than a mile from the hotel so went there on Saturday. I’d estimate that close to 1/3 of their refrigerator space was Other Half varieties. Grabbed a District 96 four pack since I’ve been to OH Centre back in March and get plenty of OH in CT. Root + Branch just wasn’t close enough to where we were with the breaks we had to make it there this time. I enjoyed their beer more last year than Noble Savage this year.
