I'm looking for recommendations on the best places to buy beer in the Brooklyn area. I have a friend that lives there and I convinced her to send me some stuff. What places do you guys think would be best to visit? Thanks.
If it is Park Slope, PaulMcConnell had a great write up of Park Slope bottle shops in the BCBS thread: http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/bourbon-county-stout-in-new-york.39032/page-7#post-547500
Bump! She went out to a place that was horribly overpriced (I'm talking about 4-5 bucks) and I don't recall the name, but if anyone knows any shops around Kensington I'd appreciate it.
Was it Bierkraft or Eagle Provisions? Those shops in Brooklyn tend to charge a premium over others, but are convenient to get harder to track down releases. Are you sure the prices weren't on par with other places in NYC and just overpriced by your local standards? I tend to pay $4-5 more here for a six pack than I have in other parts of the country.
Sunset Beer Distributors on 36th and 3rd ave - not nearly as large as selection as Bierkraft or Eagle, but they are dirt cheap and get some good stuff in from time to time. Also, if she's by the F train, take it to Bergen street and go to American Beer Distributors on Court st. FYI in my many, many experiences with both stores, Bierkraft and Eagle are horrendously overpriced even for NYC. I've gotten bottles cheaper in Manhattan (by $5 - $8 dollars) than were on "sale" at Eagle. Bierkraft is only good for the taps and the awesome sandwiches.
In Carrol Gardens there is American Beer Distributors (on Court and Kane) which has a decent bottle selection In Prospect Heights there is Prospect Heights Beer Works (on Washington and Dean) which is also pretty decent neither are that far from Kensington also, I havent been there yet but there is Brooklyn Beer and Soda on the other side of the park (near where flatbush and washington meet around Ocean)
