Got to Rev today (Saturday) with @tiffman ...no custom t-shirts like yesterday but still a great time.
If coffee thundertaker is evil, then put me on the HELL EXPRESS! Damn - I loved that beer!
    And Quinze? Boozy amazingness :sunglasses:
Great 90 minutes at Rev then on to Goldfinger for their 5yr anniversary, then to Foreign Exchange. (YEAH - my wife is out of town. So what?!? :stuck_out_tongue:)

I thought Cherry Amburana was awesome, didn't get to try Quinze. I forgot what it was called and the bartender kept explaining to me that XV does have cherries in it and I was asking for XV without the cherries lol. Also it wasn't on the menu board when I got there...

Thundertaker Express was odd to me - I picked up some serious umami and almost pepper-like flavors from it. Coffee beans just weren't on the same level as Cafe/Supermassive Cafe Deth to me.

Potentially good news for Eugene Porter fans. Perhaps a limited release in the next few months?

Thundertaker is absurdly good this year. I loved both previous iterations but I think this might be the best. Chocolate, rye spice, plenty of wood & pleasing booze heat.

I'm back at the Taproom specifically for Quinze, though. Pure barleywine bliss. Caramel & chocolate mingling with wood, bourbon & mild leather.

15 Year Beer is not for me. VERY heavy on the cherry with a mix of medicinal & syrup notes. I was never the biggest 10 Year Beer fan but I much prefer that one to this.

Strawberry Jacket is a solid 'summer' barleywine.

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Jacket and Thundertaker Express are way over the top...which was expected. A small pour is fun but plenty.

I don't care for amburana, so the Cherry Amburana 15 Year variant wasn't for me.

A mixed bag, then, in my opinion, but I'll be trawling around Binny's getting as much Thundertaker as I can & begging for crowler of Quinze.

After having had my first can of this year's release, I 100% concur that it is absurdly good. If one enjoys chocolate forward BA stouts, this one has it covered imo. You might find me in the Binny's aisle as well.

Atypically late to the party, but here to echo the praises of Quinze. And Thundertaker … wow. I envision Marty in the brewery, long after the lights go out, softly whispering to those barrels as the kettles cool and coaxing out a masterful expression of liquid chocolate and spice. What a time to be alive!

Beer on the Wall (at least the Arlington Heights one) has Cherry Amburana on draft and is available in 12oz to go crowlers for $16 (for a beer that is otherwise $35 for a 19.2oz can). So yeah, if grabbing some Cherry Amburana for cheaper than the stovepipe while not driving to the city sounds up your alley, Beer on the Wall should be on your "places to go" list.

I had Thundertaker last night and I’m not sure if amburana just doesn’t age well because I remember enjoying it more when I had it before. This time I drank it right after having Blue Ridge (which is a banger)… so maybe that’s why I didn’t enjoy it as much? I didn’t care much for Thundertaker (amburana in BW ) last night.

    ...there's no amburana in Thundertaker.

Amburana is a wood, so the more you age the beer on it, the more flavor it imparts onto the beer. I'm sure these beers had different amounts of time with Amburana. And yeah, since they were going for people to get "Lumberstruck", I'm sure this beer had lots of amburana flavors whereas Cherry Amburana XV seemed more subtle to me.

He didn’t reveal the candlelight serenades or the go to line “It’s getting a bit warm in here. Why don’t we get this bung cap off of you?”

Hey gang - is thundertaker still sitting around some suburban binny's locations or is she long gone? I'm going to be up there later this week and would love to snag a 4pk.

Binnys site is showing it as mostly in stock on all their stores. So you should have decent luck tracking it down

I highly recommend the Binny's app. For super limited inventory it's not always available to buy online, but almost all DW beers over the last year or more are on their online inventory. Just buy it, then pick up at your convenience. My past purchase emails give me 48 hours to pick up at my location.
