I'm assuming they also can sell their beer so cheap because they make lagers as opposed to ales. That's just my guess though.

Do you know what size their growlers are? Do they sell just one size or multiple sizes? I'm planning on getting at least 2 growlers, depending on the price and sizes. Also, I might even bring my camera and take some cool pictures of their brewery and tasting room.

As they will tell you at the brewery, lagers actually take longer to condition than ales, so they are less cost-effective.

Only one size of growler - 64oz

Not to mention refrigeration costs to keep fermentation/conditioning at a much lower temperature than the same for ales.

    Doppeldubbels?

I just came across bottles of Saxonator, which I've never tried, last night and grabbed two. The fact that I got more than one without knowing what it tastes like is a fair indication of the trust I have in the brewery.

in case theres any confusion, i'm not saying dubbels are doppelbocks, just they have known flavor similarities / compatibility, so.if you think one doppelbock tastes like a quad, that's not weird.

however, i am saying that quad is just a marketing name for dubbel.

what is generally listed as a quad is typically stronger than a dubbel though, no?

no, it moreso varies from brewery to brewery. in general, if someone has a beer called a dubbel and a beer called a quad, the quad is stronger--though saint bernardus 12 is called a dubbel on the label, and they also make 2 other dubbels (6 and 8). in truth, quad is just a marketing name that koningshoeven came up with. belgians aren't as style-definition-happy as americans, british, germans.

it's sort of like how one brewery's "india pale ale" is lower ABV and less hoppy than another brewery's "american pale ale," but if some brewery puts out an APA and an IPA, chances are the IPA is hoppier (see oskar blues, maine beer co., hill farmstead, etc etc).

Framinhammer is much anticipated. Baltic Porter I believe somewhere around 11%. Plus I think they do a barrel aged version. Might give smuttynose a run for their money.

Love going to Jack's Abby. Cool guys, great beers, and it's pretty inexpensive. Their Framinhammer was awesome, tried it last year. Enjoy!

I disagree with your description of the neighborhood. Light industrial around thebrewery itself but the actual neighborhood is latin and there is a fantastic El salvadoran Pupuseria right around the corner -Pupusas Y Tacos Doña Sofia a delightful place where two people can eat well for 15 bucks . I would walk anywhere there.

That area is pretty ghetto, my buddy lives a few blocks away and there is always some kind of disturbance resulting in cops coming by. There was a murder next door to his house a month or two ago as well.

Yeah, I gotta say, it's not the safest neighborhood. I should know, I grew up there.
And yes, that taco place has some pretty killer food.

Agreed. Brilliant brew. I can't say it's my favorite of theirs, as that would be Hoponious- but Smoke and Dagger is just a near-flawless beer.
