Hey my buddy is flying to San Fran from Jersey for the 49er game this weekend. What are some of the best bottle shops he should go to. Anyplace that might have some hard to get beers. He is looking for IPAs, Barleywines, Imperial Stouts and Barrel Aged beers that we don't get in east coast distribution. Also what are some good beer bars he should hit up. Any help is much appreciated.

I was told City Beer Store in SOMA is the best bottle shop.

City Beer Store is your bet place in the city for bottles....Beer Bars......Toronado, Zeitgeist, Amsterdam Cafe, Monks Kettle, La Trappe, Public House for bars... Magnolia, Thirsty Bear, 21st Amendment, for breweries

Are any of those Beer bars and/or the 3 breweries you listed near eachother where I could walk to? Or all will need a cab ride?

Is your friend a Packers fan? If so, I have some alternative suggestions.

Healthy Spirits has a lot of excellent Belgians, not much of other styles. They did have a lot of 50/50 a few weeks ago. Both '11 and '12.

OK, then I won't recommend Young Ellis Food Center at the corner of Jones and Ellis for their "killer" craft brew selection.

Been a few years since I lived there, so guys who are still up there can correct me if I am wrong. But i seem to remember a couple little tavern/bars around Polk st. and Post st.? Granted I wasn;t drinking anything spectacular back then, but I do remember them having some great local options that I never tried.... looking back I sure wish I did!

and ya I know that intersection is kind of hit or miss dirt bag/dirty/hipster... but the city is full of gems... even in the tenderloin haha.

Ya! That is the place I was trying to remember. I accidently stumbled in to that place... without cash of course. and had to go on a mission to find an ATM. but I liked its grimeyness.

Thought you said you had to go the Mission for an ATM. Which would have been a long way to travel...

oh jesus, I wouldn't have made it!

off topic, and I am sorry to steal the thread, but it may send you to a cool place. Has anyone tried the oyster bar or whatever that opened up in the Castro? I walked by it last time I was up there and there were at least 10 people waiting outside.... looked like only about 20-30 people fit inside. Anyone?
