Heading to Sandwich this weekend for the first time. I know its prime summer season so I am expecting it to be packed and parking to be limited nearby. Anyone been on a weekend recently and care share their experience? Also any lobster rolls reviews?

Try to get there right @ open (or a few minutes early), as there is limited parking, & it fills quickly. When it is full, you have to take a shuttle. Traffic can be epic on a summer weekend, so plan accordingly.

I've personally never found it "packed" when I've been there (and I've only been in the summer). I can't recall being annoyed about my length of wait for a beer. Maybe I have gotten lucky. I always chalk it up to the fact that the parking is less than ideal so that turns people away a bit. My go-to has been to get there later once the beach lot is no longer costing you $20 and the beach-goers have started to leave. That's not foolproof I'm sure but it has worked for me.

They have a free shuttle to a parking lot down the road, so you don’t need pay $20 to park. The shuttle runs at least every 15 mins.

My friend works there part time, and he said weekends are “madness,” whatever that means. I was there two weeks ago, on a beautiful Tuesday, and the place was quite busy, but wait times for a pour were nonexistent or only a few minutes.

So is the lot right next door 20 bucks to park? I dont mind the shuttle down the street or walking the .5 mile if thats the case.

    Appreciate the responses!

The adjacent beach lot becomes free after 4 or 5 pm. I don’t remember the exact time. It’s a small lot which can sometimes be full no matter the time. You may end up in the shuttle lot. It’s not a big deal either way. I have no meaningful gripes with the Sandwich location. Well, I kind of have a gripe. They have like 90% imperial strength beers on draft.

That has always been an issue in Sandwich. Way too many of the beers are very high ABV on draft. Y wife usually struggles to find something she’d want to drink to be honest (DIPA are not her thing). The location is great once you are there. The parking is what it is. As I said above, I’d rather try to time it right than walk / take a shuttle, but I’ve never felt crowded when I’ve been there.

Getting there at open is your best bet in my experience. My wife and I usually park at the cape cod canal visitor center and walk over. You can walk along the canal to the beach, although the beach is quite rocky. There is also a trail that cuts through a wooded area and takes you to the lot at treehouse.
I tried the lobster roll last year and it was good, albeit unspectacular. I’m going next weekend myself and following the above plan.
It’s a beautiful location to have a beer or two! Enjoy!

My son picked up some beer for me at Charlton on July 19. I just noticed the cans of Ultimate Haze are dated June 18. So a month old when picked up. Isn’t that old for that style from Tree House? Every time I’ve purchased cans from Tree House in the past it’s been dated within a week or so from the purchase date.

All the hops I got on Tuesday were sub 10-day packaging date. Most in the 5-day range.

I hope some of the newer ones and higher finishing ones chill out a bit. Lot of high acidity astringency backed by unattenuated sugars. It wasnt like the beer were bad by any means. Just very strong in each of the profiles of their flavors. The Hyperion was actually super well balanced from first crack. Liquid Haze was fine too. After about 7-14 days canned, they tend to meld into a much less dramatic vibe. Love them right in that 2-3 week window.

Lagers were all on point right away.

I love their beer about a month in.

You gotta put in the time to try a day, week and a month old and keep doing it. That 4 week or so window gets everyone.

You can go months on some of the hoppy stuff and it’s still excellent. They’ve just figured it out

Yeah, just to clarify, I have absolutely no problem with drinking month old beer. I was just surprised that it was a month old when purchased. Tree House usually turns their hoppy beer over faster than that from both past experience and anecdotal evidence, and I know Nate prides himself on them selling fresh beer.

My belief is that almost nothing sells out quickly anymore, anywhere, even at Treehouse. And take a look at the amount of skus Treehouse has for sale. They just have too many beers to choose from for any particular beer to move as fast as it used to. The days of ONLY week old beers (or younger) for sale seem to be largely over. I also assume batch sizes are bigger too.

I think we all—me included—overstressed the “need” for hoppy beer to be hours or days old in order to buy it.

As you know, Treehouse keeps beer in cold storage and, provided you keep it cold (I’m sure you do), that stuff will be great right into September, maybe beyond. I have a couple of cans of Summer, canned in June, and the one I had last night was absolutely perfect. It really was perfection, and I’m far from the biggest Treehouse fanboy around. I have never purchased a Treehouse beer that was imperfect due to age. I’ve had beers I didn’t like, sure, but not because of age.

Now I’m thinking of holding on to a can of Summer into October to see how it holds up.

Drove to rye beach, NH from Rochester,ny yesterday. Traffic was fine until a standstill at the Charleton exit, which was our pit stop . It was hopping there, grabbed a Ruby Bay pils side pull and it was fantastic. The crispy line was short and really, I had another 2 hours to drive.

This video is two years old so maybe their standard has changed, but Nate says that they target an average age of 7 days for their hoppy beer inventory.

Even then, plenty of stuff lasted longer than a week.

I wonder if his target of 7 days was also a kind of subliminal marketing push. As in, “hurry up everyone! Come and get it before it’s gone or you won’t get this one!”

Visited Charlton for the first time in a long time today since we were in the area. Busy as always, business seems great.

I am annoyed though that the only one of what I would call the "OG core" beers available in cans was green. No Julius and no Haze makes me sad. Also no pale ales in cans and very limited single IPAs. Maybe because I caught them at the end of the weekend.

I know I'm the old man telling at clouds, but I just want them to play the damn hits man.

I will say the Little West I had on tap was excellent. Comparable to the freshest SNPA ever.
