If you’re looking for a quick beach stop without a lot of driving West Haven is perfect. Just down there today….clean, sunny, bright. Longest stretch of beach in the state. Riva 183 beach st. set to open 8/1 boasts a brand new facility with at least 20 tap lines. 2 floors, indoor and outdoor bar few feet from the water. Down the street is the legendary Stowes Seafood. A few blocks up is the ‘King of Abeetz’ - Zuppardis Apizza (Trust me) Dive bar also has a nice place catered to craft beer on the water as well.

    Enjoy

Yes, Frank Pepe’s and Sally’s coal fired pizza.
My wife lived in Danbury for 13 years. When visiting friends in that area, we make it a point to make a pizza stop on Wooster Street any time we’re near New Haven.
Ironically Pepe’s now has a location here in Maryland, down near Bethesda. :yum:

    To answer the original question,
I’ve been to a few microbreweries in that area, but none come to mind or stand out in my memory enough to make a recommendation.
    Enjoy your trip! :beers:

This reply is a big help. Anti-beach feedback on this thread has caused me to debate whether to skip the beach day and find a different activity. I'll look into your recos. It may help that my crew has the maturity of a seven year old.

I missed this thread when it was posted but now I'm curious - how did it go? Particularly interested in your experience with NEBCo as I'm pretty partial to them.

Oh and as far as pizza goes - I'm still a Modern loyalist but I've heard good things about Fuoco.

The trip was great...thanks for asking!

For taprooms, we visited OEC, Fox Farm, NEBCO, and Two Roads Experimental. OEC and Fox Farm have world class beers and the setting at Fox Farm is beautiful. At both places the bartenders were very knowledgable and friendly. Two Roads Experimental was a cool place with good creative beers. NEBCO has solid OG beers and a fairly typical tap room.

For pizza, we hit Sally's and Modern. We liked Sally's by far. Sally's is one of the best pizza places we've ever tried. Modern was very good but did not measure up to Sally's for all but one of us.

We spent a beach day at the Silver Sands State Park (recommended in this thread and by a local in line at Sally's). We had great weather and thoroughly enjoyed the beach, ocean, and walking on the sandbar out to the island.

We had a fabulous, upscale dinner with ocean views at Shell & Bones Oyster Bar & Grill.

We enjoyed rounds of golf at Lyman Orchards Golf Club, Hop Brook Golf Course (9 holes), and River Ridge. Hop Brook was a bit rough around the edges but all three courses were playable and enjoyable for my crew of hack golfers.

A good time was had by all in the great state of Connecticut,. Thanks to all the locals who gave me tips in this thread. Much appreciated! p s. Don't be so harsh on your local beaches!

The beaches are fine. There’s just no waves, and no boardwalks. Surrounding areas are really nice with lots of good food and shopping and other activities. We were just down in Old Lyme/ Old Saybrook and it would be a great place to spend a week
