Mortalis is WILD overrated. Every beer I've ever had from them was straight diabetes in a can/bottle and I don't understand the adoration for them.

My hot take is something I posted before (with limited popularity):

Reduce the number of beer brands. There is just too much brands on my beer retailers’ shelves and the majority of those beers are too old. A smaller number of brands would encourage those products to move better and hopefully greatly reduce the amount of old product.

Having a 1000+ beer brands to choose from but with most of them too old is not really a broad choice of beers.

    Cheers!

When Citra first hit, I loved it. Never got anything tropical about it. Sierra Nevada (IIRC) was the first brewery to use it, pre-murkbomb era, and it hit great. I think the tropical aspect comes from the hops used with it. Brewers may using Citra as a base hop to provide some punch, but it's the more modern strains that give beers the frooty, juice box flavors.

    My Hawt Taek is this:

There aren't enough breweries. Every small town needs one, and every neighborhood of a city needs one. Let's use my area of Bellingham/Whatcom County Washington as an example.

We're a city of over 90k residents, with a college that has over 14k undergrads. depending on how counts, we have 12-15 breweries. But, there are neighborhoods without a brewery. The existing breweries are clustered; most are downtown/adjacent, with a couple other groupings. Yet my neighborhood doesn't have one. Every neighborhood should have one within walking distance, so that folks can bip in and chat with neighbors while out walking the dog, or coming back from the park.

We also have about 9 other towns in the county, that brings our population up to the 250,000 range, with 2 more breweries. Not enough beer. If a town can bring out 1,000 folks for a Friday night high school football game, they can support a brewery.

Not every brewery needs to awesome, incredible, mind-blowing beers that appeals to us dweebs, but rather solid, reliable, tasty, enjoyable brews that the local farmers can drink while talking over crop prices, while a couple shop owners are quaffing while discussing consumer habits, and a couple construction workers are talking sports, while a lawyer, judge, and town councilperson discuss who they're push for mayor in the upcoming election. These are all conversations I've heard in my local breweries, and every town/neighborhood needs such a gathering place.

BUT! Speaking as a retailer, we must bear in mind that the vast majority of the great unwashed public simply doesn't care about dates. Hell, they don't even know how to look for/at dates. They just want what they want. The sheeple just sheep along.

Side note: my beer reps and I are very conscious about keeping track of dates in my store.

Everyone knows that the 19.2oz Tall Boy is the superior vessel for craft. I would say 80-90% of my purchases are from a gas station.

Unfortunately that is indeed the situation.

Wouldn't it be nice if the beer industry would just provide fresh beer to consumers and having to know about dates would be a non-issue?

    A man can dream!?!

    Cheers!

there was a sweet spot around 2019 when a lot of liquor stores didn't adjust pricing correctly; I was swimming in cheap 6pks of Shipping Outta Boston.

I agree, Citra itself is ok, but it was the first modern hop that started the whole fruity / tropical obsession. SN Torpedo is a great beer, but Citra is just part of the blend.

In a sea of not-that-many strong ale/strong lagers... in my area, at least... this is blasphemy.

    But we're still cool tho.

Everyone does not particularly agree with this Icy Cold Taek. The only thing they're good for is for a shitty tasting, high octane beer that you grab when you're already drunk, and need one moar to push you over the edge and into the arms of Morpheus.

But but... all of my favorite Krafts come in Slam Can size nowadays :beers:

    -Pizza Port Swami's
    -Societe The Pupil
    -Sierra Nevada Torpedo and Snappy
    -Stone IPA / Delicious
    -North Coast Old Raspy
    -Fremont Lush
    -Enegren The Lightest One
    -Lawsons Finest Sip of Sunshine
    -Rev Brewing Deth's Tar

Just to name a few...OR apparently I just prefer shitty tasting beer :poop: sorry but this is not a fad brother. I suggest everyone embrace it and get on board. Who wants to waste there time on a lil 12ozer that doesn't even fill up a proper pint glass anyways :sunglasses:

My go-to craft beer bar, The Brass Tap, was a verified venue on Untappd. I knew well in advance what I would order because their menu was always up-to-date. Fortunately, they didn't have too many ciders and most of those were locals.

Think about the average American and how much sugar the grew up on and apply that to beer.
    It isn't surprising

Especially when the 4x19.2oz costs less than the 4x16oz as it does with Sip and a few others in my area.
