Glad you enjoyed it! And good of you to drink those fresh hops ASAP. That was the right call.

Another day, another fresh hop Hallertauer Mittelfrüh beer. This one is from ForeLand Beer of McMinnville, OR, about 30-odd miles south and west of me. Enjoyed at The Beermongers, my favorite beer bar in Portland.

ForeLand Fresh Hop Farmer Jim's Kellerbier
The body is a bold yellow-gold with a soft, unfiltered haze to it. The milk-white head shrinks quickly to a thin surface, but leaves plenty of lacing in memory of its prouder days. The nose is more pilsner than kellerbier: crisp, doughy malt and floral/spicy Noble hops, but no yeasty/rustic kellerbier character. It does show some green/floral/mild citrus fresh hop notes. The taste leads with bready and slightly toasty malt. Not much depth, but the flavors are pleasing. The fresh Hallertauer hops contribute a geranium-like floral character that's quite spicy, along with a spritz of lemon. Proper bitterness in the drying finish sets the stage agreeably for the next sip. Crisp and moreish. The feel is medium-light with bracing carbonation. Overall, this isn't quite the same level of experience as yesterday's Fresh Hop Hallertau Pilsner from Ferment Brewing Company, but is still a worthy and enjoyable example of the style.

Social Project Santa Monica West Coast IPA w/Krush & Cashmere hops, 7.9% ABV; 4.05 overall

Pours an effervescent gold/honey color with 3 fingers of cream-colored head . Fantastic head retention & lacing

S: Bready, tangerines, some stone fruit

T: Follows the nose. some grassy hop notes, a little dryness up front. Some peach notes mix in with limes & dryness as this beer warms up. Finishes with grassy bitterness, pomelos & bready dryness & a kiss of peach

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation; good balance

Easy to drink, but wanted a little more hop bitterness/citrus

    An Oak Smoked Hefeweizen
16 oz can from the esteemed @Ozzylizard

Pours a deeper amber hue for a Hefeweizen. Pretty but darker than typical. Only slightly opaque. Off white foam is pretty consistent, leaving minuscule lacing.
Aroma is definitely Hefeweizen, some banana, yeast, and spice with a gentle smoke note that comes in last. It is smooth and almost earthy.
Flavor follows the nose. Banana upfront, yeast, spice, and again, mild smoke.
Mouthfeel is light, appropriate carbonation level keeps things alive, and the finish is kind of a dry, mildly spiced, and the finish is both mildly smoky and a tad earthy and bitter.
An interesting beer. Smoked lightly so for those who are turned off by smoke could still enjoy this.

Watching some Sunday night NFL and drinking Deschutes Black Butte XXXVI Imperial Porter. This 11.4% is a good way for me to wrap up the weekend.

    Onto my review:

Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz bottle poured into my snifter. Beer received as part of a trade. LAbel is date stamped as packaged on 06/05/2024.
Beer pours a coffee black color with some khaki colored dense creamy head that fades slowly to a sturdy surface covering. This remains through the sampling.
Aroma is some roasted malt and a bit of sweet milk chocolate and maybe a little citrus hop note. Peanut butter is absent , but may have faded since this was fresh.
First sip reveals a medium to thicker body with very fine and gentle carbonation. Texture is pretty smooth and this beer drinks easy.
Flavor is similar to the nose with some milk chocolate and roasted malt, a little bit of sweet candy and here some citrusy hops again on the finish. Never any hint of ABV on this beer. This beer is easy to drink, but no peanut butter that I thought may be present. Not really as deep of a beer as I had hoped, but it certainly isnt a bad beer. glad to have tried it and enjoyed it enough, but was a little disappointed.

    Cycle - DBR

22oz bottle served in a stemless BA rastal. Don't see a date on it. Got it from @not2quick in a trade recently.

Pours black with a tiny dark brown head, little to no carbonation. Smell is huge cocoa and booze, some vanilla and molasses, maybe some anise. Rye spice.

Taste is sweet and boozy. Nuts and molasses. Some dates and raisins. Chocolate isn't quite right, but there's some essence of it. Something closer to boozy truffles.

Mouthfeel is thick and syrupy, somehow escapes heaviness. Interesting, very good.

Living Häus Beer Company - Harris
6.7% ABV West Coast IPA brewed with Citra, Centennial, and Amarillo.

This tastes like a very authentic, old-school WCIPA. It's super clean and has an excellent hop/malt balance, even though it gives you the strong, lingering bitterness and dryness that a good WCIPA should. I like that the beer has a nice brightness from a lime note that really uplifts the palate. I also think that what makes this beer so good is not so much its uniqueness, but rather the fact that it is made so well and it shows. And I think that it is noticeable when you compare how many other breweries are attempting to make WCIPAs nowadays yet they wish that they could attain the level that Living Haus has achieved here with Harris. Well done!
